Product Description

Product Description

A new edition of this popular nutritional plan to ease IBS brings the book onto the health rather than the cookery shelves. A simple nutritional plan and 60 delicious recipes provide sufferers -- an estimated one in three of the population -- with the means to treat this painful condition naturally. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is often the result of a basic food intolerance and can often flare up at times of stress. Diet is one of the best ways of getting the condition under control and improving quality of life for sufferers. Written by a medical doctor (and Telegraph columnist) and a well-known special diets cookery writer, this practical health guide provides IBS sufferers with a complete nutritional plan and 60 delicious and easy recipes to deal with IBS and digestive pain the natural way. Contains all of the mainstream medical information in an easy-to-read style, as well as the low-down on the full range of effective complementary health treatments available. The book also outlines the common 'trigger' foods that cause IBS to flare up, such as alcohol, caffeine, dairy and wheat. Readers are encouraged to focus on different food ranges to help them identify their own personal IBS triggers, making this a long-term treatment plan.

I found this book excellent, it is easy to read and is written in such a way that you can understand clearly, and for me -better, the nightmare of IBS. I learnt a lot from this book and would reccommend it to any fellow sufferers. Lots of advice on basic day to day symptoms. Good recipes also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book, 10 Oct 2009

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: IBS Diet: Reduce Pain and Improve Digestion the Natural Way (Eat to Beat) (Paperback)
This book is a lifesaver for those who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. It is written in plain English and any scientific terms are well explained.

The book is split into four parts, the first part is facts about IBS, including causes, symptoms and diagnosis. The second part explains the effects IBS will have on diet, including wheat, yeast, lactose and fibre requirements and changes. The third part is 60 recipes that can be eaten which will not usually cause the symptoms of IBS to flare up, though these mainly consist of wheat/gluten and dairy free recipes, but ranges from lamb chops and olives, pasta with cabbage and sardine hummus to name but a few. The final section contains information on taking the tackling of IBs further, including information on nutritional supplements, lifestyle changes and other bowel problems which could be caused by IBS.

All in all, this is a very good beginners book for those that have either been newly diagnosed with IBS or suspect that they may have problems in that area.
