This is a great book, aimed towards making cocktails at home, the other diffordsguide books are probably more suited towards professional bartenders.
The fact everything in the book only uses 14 spirits is great. 500 cocktails from only 14 spirits (and other everyday house hold ingredients). The beginning of the book tells you a little about the 14 spirits you are going to use. It goes on to tell you the different equipment you will need, which only consists of basic bar equipment and general kitchen utensils. And continues to tell you how to use the different pieces of equipment, how to make clear ice, how to make sugar syrup, how to salt the rim of a glass and goes through the different styles of glassware among other things.
It's hardcover, nicely layed out, 1-5 star rating system to help you choose which you'd like to try first. And as a nice extra there are randomly placed cocktail/alcohol related quotes, some quite amusing;
"Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink." - Lady Aston to Winston Churchill
"Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it." - His reply.
The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was the indexing. For a book aimed at someone with a limited stock of alcohol an indexing system based on that would have been very helpful. By that I mean, the drinks split into what spirits are used or something similar. So if you only had 6 of the 14 spirits you could easily find cocktails you could make. The book is indexed alphabetically, which works, but it could have been even better with a system like the one I described.
But if you looking for a book to help you get the most out of your limited home bar this book is a must have.
