5.0 out of 5 stars Moving Hearts - Dark End Of The Street review 12 Nov 2007
Format:Audio CD
This album is an absolute must for anyone born before 1982. I was born in 1980, and this album was engraved in my brain by my music loving father. I didn't realise how good it was until now...and i have scrambled to get it recently! It reminds me clearly of my mid 80's childhood Christmas' and lots of driving! It has elements of trad irish, rock, jazz and pop...all blended perfectly by Donal Lunny in that 80's style that is now extinct. The band consists of stars Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, and Davy Spillane. I never even realised that these legends collaborated until recently. Not only did they collaborate..they made more than 1 album together.
I would highly recommend this album to anyone with good taste in music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark End 12 May 2012

I am a fan of Christy Moore and Davey Spillane any way so this may be a biased review. I like this album it has an earthy quality to it and the combination of skilled musicians and Moore's great vocals make it easy on the ear.

There is a variety in the tracks some atmospheric and some traditional sounds. I like it, but then again as I said I am biased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gone but never forgotten 24 July 2006
By William, An Irishman in Florida - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The "Hearts" were incredible. With Davy Spillane's Uilleann Pipes and Low Whistle, Christy Moore's terrific singing of, his brother Barry's, or as he became to be known Luka Bloom, song, "Remember the Brave Ones". He also sings a Mick Hanly song who, when Christy got browned off with the changes the Band were headed in and headed off to go solo, gave Mick the opportunity to be their next singer. He of course, then was the singer on the "Live" album which was recorded in 1983, in London. Eoghan O Neill's, whether fretless or fretted bass, drove the Band so powerfully, yet another unsung hero of Irish music! His own tune "Half Moon" is on here and is one for seeing how many influences were behind how the Band got their name.

All of these fellas have gone on to be such influences in the music.

Keith Donald's Sax is exemplary on many of the numbers, Declan Sinnott's superb phrasing and chording on his Electric and Acoustic Guitars and Donal Lunny's arranging and Bouzouki playing, well.........

Just buy it IF you can find it!

This is a very good album. Mostly vocal, with very pointed excellent lyrics covering topics related to Irelands political struggles. All performed with consumate skill and art. What a band.
