  • In the 1890's the vines in this vineyard were the first d'Arenberg vines to be trained above knee height which resulted in the nickname The High Trellis. Over the past four decades, Cabernet Sauvignon from the High Trellis vineyard has been released under the d'Arenberg label and won constant praise. This wine won the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy at the 1969 Melbourne wine show, and has been highly praised ever since.
  • This Cabernet Sauvignon gives off aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry and lovely mint leaf. The characters are ripe, balanced and elegant. This Cabernet Sauvignon has fine gravelly tannins and just a hint of oak. Will match perfectly with barbecued meat and roast beef.
  • Chester Osborn believes the benefits of minimal input. The fundamental nature of the philosophy is minimal or no irrigation, no fertilization, minimal spraying and no soil cultivation. These practices are employed across vineyards owned, leased and contracted to d'Arenberg to guarantee grape quality and environmental responsibility. The result of this is slightly lower yielding vines bringing to life intense flavoured grapes showing the individual character of the soils they are grown in (What the French call Terroir!!). The environmental benefits are also large with less mechanical requirements, less water and soil richer in natural micronutrients

Product Description

Product Description

d’Arenberg is one of the most important winemakers in McLaren Vale. Founded in 1912 by Joseph Osborn, fourth generation, Chester Osbourn took control as Chief Winemaker in 1984. The company made its name making beautiful wines from red Rhone varieties. The previous 10 years have seen Chester produce a variety of white wines just as unique and thrilling. Chester is well known for his loud shirts and infectious character and no one knows their soils and vines better than Chester. Chester works with individual parcels of fruit that display diverse flavour profiles that are influenced by the unique soil characteristics and meso-climates of the vineyards. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately to highlight the individual characters that contribute complexity to the final blend. The philosophy of Chester and d’Arenberg is to make wines that have great fragrance, fruit palate texture and length. The finish of the wine must have a natural, fine balance of acidity and a complex structure of tannins.
