Having been a great admirer of Simon Packham's first published novel, "The Opposite Bastard", I was intrigued to see that he has now written a book for a younger audience, "Comin 2 gt u". I read it in one sitting, finding that I couldn't put it down!
For me it had uncomfortable resonances of experiences at the hands of school bullies during my own youth; but, despite the dark subject matter, it is a witty and entertaining book; and it reminds those of us who have been bullied that we ourselves may have been part-time bullies, too.
The sections concerning the schoolboy main character Samuel's grandfather which run through the book complement the storyline, rather than being a tiresome distraction from it.
This book should be included, as a matter of urgency, on reading lists for secondary school pupils.
