More About the Author

The author Marie Louise Heffernan is an ecological consultant with a specialisation in bird ecology. She has worked as an ornithologist for nearly 20 years. Product Description

This is the perfect book of garden bird identification for an absolute beginner with large clear photos. It is the ideal guide to have while watching birds at the bird feeder, in local parks or hedgerows. Short clear descriptions of the key identifying features of each bird are given. Twenty two of the most common birds found in gardens in Britain and Ireland are shown. This book has been designed as a quick and simple way to identify birds for both young children and adults. The author wrote the book originally for her daughter as she was unable to find a simple book that clearly identified common garden birds. With a series of fabulous photos showing each bird and the key differences between the birds clearly described and easily seen in the each photograph, this allows the young or not so young bird watching beginner to know their birds. Soon to be released as an eBook.

This is a wonderful little book. It's big enough for small people to take it up and enjoy it, but not so big that it's off putting either.
The graphics are bright and colorful, the text is easy read.
It's the kind of book kids will love, long term, you'll end up leaving it in your kitchen and people will flick through it, they may not tell you, but you know it's one of those that people can't not look at.
If there are more on the way, I'll certainly be picking them up for my gang!

I bought a couple of these books, and my daughter, who is seven stole one off me. She delighted in the large clear pictures, and the easy, brief descriptions. I also think this is a great for the beginning adult birdwatcher. The large pictures allow for clearer identification, and the written detail is concise and to the point. Looking forward to seeing more guides in the future from this author.

This is a very user friendly guide - lots of colourful photographs and concise easy to read information. It would make a good present for children who are interested in Wildlife and it's a good book to have around to encourage children to discover more about the birds they see in their own gardens.
