A collection of 60 oil paintings by the artist with explanations of all the works (the author freely admits that actually explaing your work is "terribly bad form" according to the art 'establishment'). A real breath of fresh air if you're sick to death of all the Damien Hirsts and Tracy Emins of this world. This is proper, real art. None of your 'High-brow', utterly talentless, technically inept dross here. This book has monsters, hot-rods, blood'n'guts and of course, naked ladies. All fantastically and intelligently executed. If you like your 'art' to be genuine and erm....just plain good, then get this book. Also check out 'Juxtapoz' magazine for more of the same.

Here is a truly surrealistic artist, joyfully letting his angst erupt in Technicolor cartoon-style mega-detailed paintings.

Each painting should have given more room (how about fold-outs?) in order to appreciate the masse of details each individual painting contains. Any part of a painting can, in fact be taken out, to give what seems to be another separate complete painting.

Recommended to all fans of surrealism.

Format: Paperback
My first introduction to another artistic world bubbling to the surface in 1993. This opened a whole new vista. The imagery takes piece of the surreal the works of Ernst and the dreamscapes of Dali and brings them to real life. Bohemian Bukowksi type lives are rendered in colour as mutliple explosions of body explode around the main themes.

The paintings would dominate any household as they grip the viewer with their juxtaposition of thematics. Sci Fi Comic book fantasies reworked by the 1st wave of the lowbrow pop psychologists emerge from the screens to deliver a big hunk of apple pie with a cockroach residing in the pastry.

These are not easy views as they represent the juxtaposition, of the front and what has been masked by the deception of enacting social manners. Robert Williams is all for showing the beast beyond the presentation. He uses a myriad of strategies to highlight the various theatrical plays used to hide power plays.

Well worth the gaze into his abyss to see a reflection especially for those who are weak in the soul or strong in the gaze. These scenarios reflect you.

sex, aphrodisiacs and vomit 25 Jun. 2001
By gefunden - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
i first got this book to satisfy a fascination for the "big daddy" ed roth paintings i would see in the back of hot-rod magazines when i was a kid. to clear a few things up, robt. williams is more twisted than a green monster driving a header-flamed muscle car. it wasn't until i found a 10 year old copy of guns-n-roses appetite for destruction hidden away in my basement that i realized i had seen this type of art before. williams painted the metal spider lunging from a wooden fence to prey on boy for the back cover. that picture fascinated me then as do these images now. i lost my copy of this sometime back but the juxtaposition of amoeba behind the wheel of fast cars being chased by cowboys lingers in my brain like a dream barely remembered. his work is very much like this. anything can happen, beautiful or frightening, and very often on the same page.

Gotta love Robert 9 Jun. 2013
By Dave Bross - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Of course, it takes a rather demented sense of humor and art to enjoy this.
The cover should warn you off if this isn't you.

Half the fun with Robert's stuff is listening to what he says or writes...like his description of color choices to satisfy your inner worm...which you'll discover is scientifically accurate if you look it up. The "gut" reaction is for real, you do have a complete brain in your belly.
Above and beyond his abilities as a classically trained artist gone surreal, he's a fascinating and very intelligent character. Check out some of his Youtube videos or look up his history sometime.

Incredible 12 Nov. 2013

Great quality soft bound edition. The content, though, whoa baby. Good stuff, not for kids, but such a relatable artist. Should be required reading for any art historian.
