I have had lower back pain for several years and also pains in my knees which I beleive came from a having a very physical job, Since retiring in December 2012, I decided that for health & fitness reason's I needed to lose some weight and I had read about this book in the newspapers, Joanna makes it so easy to understand the techniques for "Walkactive" and there are also good drawings to show the right and wrong positions when walking, there is also an audio download on Joanna's website, which you can download by using a password from the book, I have downloaded it on to my phone and every so often I play it whilst I am out walking,to remind me of the correct techniques, I have only been doing this for a couple of weeks, but I can feel the difference in my whole body, I have lost some weight and my posture has changed as well (becoming more upright and not slumping), at the moment I am walking 8500 steps per day, having increased this from 6000, without any pain in my knees at all, I have now also got the DVD which complements the book very well, I have bought many fitness books in the past and non compare to this, I would recommend both the book and DVD to anyone wishing to improve their fitness, and I am sure that once you have read it you will feel exactly the same as me.

I read a little about this in one of the daily newspapers in 2013 and thought it was interesting as I have been suffering from muscle problems for a couple of years. Bought the book and started following the changes to how to walk and can honestly say it has made a big difference. I am not getting the aching ankles and thigh muscles that I was getting even after walking a small distance. I no longer have to think about heel down first, its become automatic and I really think it has helped, I no longer get swollen ankles which was something that I had been worrying about, mostly I think because I can walk further without the muscle pain I used to get.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in how to learn to walk properly. That means using the correct muscles. It also means learning the correct posture too. It is an easy read with clear outlines on what to do to achieve ones's goal. Be it weight loss, fitness or just correct walking technique.

This book doesn't seem to work well on kindle. I don't seem to have access to text resizing, making the print very small and difficult to read. The layout does not work well in digital format, with information windows interrupting the flow of text. If you want this book, the standard printed version would be the better choice.

I have yet to finish the book,but am finding it practical and easy to follow. I began using the strategies laid out and immediately noticed a difference in my walking. The challenge now is to apply them constantly!

This is a good book, but is very difficult to read on s Kindle paper white, it doesn't seem to have been formatted properly for it. You'll need a magnifying glass. Better on the iPad, but not brilliant either. In retrospect, I wish I'd bought the paperback version.
