There's not too much in this book that can't be found within the many volumes of Informix manuals. The difference is that this book is quite well written, it includes readily applicable examples, and employs a tutorial approach that can be easily followed. This book is both informative and fun to read. A couple of typos can't keep me from giving this worthy book five stars!

I have to confess that I found out a lot of this information the hard way. I played with existing programs and databases. What make this book so good is that it tells me what it is that I have been doing and what I missed. I do have to weed out what I can use as I am using SE not online. The CD is almost exclusive online.
There is lots of visuals and working code and tips to get you off the ground. I am using this book to take an Access database and replace with Informix and integrate with some existing store bought manufacturing applications.

what a wonderful book this is. It provides a great base for beginners but also has lots of tips that even experienced DBA's will appreciate. I can't believe it took so long for a book like this to show up, but I'm glad that it was this author who wrote it. Mr. Miller's writing is clear, concise and funny. I wish all technical books would be so fun to read.

A fine Informix Resource 10 Feb. 2000
By Joseph D. Jendrysik - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book is a fine resource for anyone who is just learning Informix database. It provides a good overview on all the concepts that related to Informix. It can be used as a desktop reference when dealing with Informix issues. The book is very in-depth, but does not provide all the details on all subjects. The book title is a good indication of this.

Not for Informix Administrators 16 July 2001
By JC - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I bought this book hoping it would help me administer Informix. It is primarily geared more toward the person looking to learn SQL syntax and apply it to Informix, with a side-bar focus to the DB Admin. The book is not bad for what it covers, I just thought (hoped) it would be geared more to the DB Admin.
