1.0 out of 5 stars Useless manual, and very hard to figure out the device status, 13 Mar 2008
By Danny (Glasgow) - See all my reviews
The manual that comes with the device is abysmally bad: it does not even specify how to switch the device on and off! After emailing BlueNEXT and fiddling with the GPS for a few days, we figured out that one has to keep the button pressed "more than 4 seconds" to switch the device on. If you press less than that, the blue led comes on, the red too, then red blinks ... - very confusing. Then it would not get any signal unless outdoors (not even by the window). Lost satellite connection a few times while on the motorway, where there are no obstacles. And if the combination GPS+PDA does not work, then it's very hard to figure out where exactly the trouble is.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit of playing required to set-up but then works like a dream with my hp iPAQ, 22 Feb 2009
Quick delivery and good value for money, however as some other reviewers have reported the set-up instructions leave something to be desired.
Once past the initial set-up though I've found it very reliable with good battery life - hence have still awarded 5 stars.

Some may find the following set-up tips useful
I'm using an HP iPAQ running Windows Mobile 5.0 and Tom Tom Navigator 5.
Firstly pair the GPS with the PDA using Bluetooth Manager - the instructions suggest using the SPP slave service - I don't have this as an option but the system works fine using Bluetooth Serial Port.
In Start-Settings-GPS I've set the GPS program port as COM8, the GPS hardware port as COM5 and the Baud rate as 9600.
In Tom Tom 5 I've selected the "Other Cable NMEA GPS" with the Baud rate set to 9600 and Bluetooth Serial port on COM8. (The "Other Cable" option on Tom Tom 5 seems to be the only one that lets you set the baud rate to 9600). To use power up the GPS, then start Tom Tom, and Tom Tom automatically connects to the GPS and away you go.

I also use Fugawi v1.5 this works fine as well - under GPS Prefs set the Com Port to Com8 and the Baud rate to 9600, and again just start up the GPS, open Fugawi and it will connect to the GPS automatically and away you go.

Now it's all set-up as I mentioned above it works like a dream.

Just one thing to bear in mind is that using a bluetooth GPS will mean the iPAQ batteries will noticeably drain more quickly over using a wired GPS - not a problem if you have a charger in the car, but more of an issue if you're out walking all day. The GPS itself lasts ages on one charge.
