This review should hopefully serve as a warning to others! Do NOT buy this shaker! Whilst the metal half and the hawthorne strainer are excellent, the glass shaker is terrible. I have now broken two; the first whilst simply shaking a drink, and the 2nd whilst cleaning the glass. It was the first time i had used both when they broke. I should also add, that my second glass half had never even had a drink shaken it in (had only stirred martinis it in) and it broke during a hand wash and cut my hands quite badly.

The Glass Doesn't Hold Up 29 April 2011

This is a real drink shaker that is well built and feels great in my hand. If used properly, this will give a lifetime of service.

June 14, 2011 Update - well this went from being a really awesome product, to something that is just not very good. Three glasses have now broken, and I've given up. I'll move on to another brand. This is really sad, the stainless steel cup is outstanding. The glass just keeps breaking. I've tried very hard not to shake like a wild man, but I still end up with cracks at the top.

May 28, 2011 Update: There appears to be some kind of manufacturing defect with this batch of shakers at Amazon. I have now cracked two glasses (the first one was replaced quickly by Amazon). I have contacted Blomus to send me another replacement. They responded to my email very quickly. The customer service representative wrote that the glass is heavy duty, should not break, and the only time they've seen broken glasses was from the user dropping the glass. With a completely different batch of glasses I'll see how well the glass stands up to shaking. The first break, I was probably at some kind of fault (I was shaking the heck out of my drink with a lot of ice). The second break, I was being very careful and not shaking very hard, and the glass still broke. I certainly hope this isn't a design defect - I love the stainless steel part of this set.

August 2, 2011 Update: Cracked a third one. I've moved on to an all metal shaker and a Schott Boston shaker without the silicone rim. I've used that shaker a dozen times and not cracked the glass. Blomus really tried hard to make this right, this product just seems like it has a design flaw, or three glasses hate me.

December 11, 2011 Update - I've used a Boston Shaker by Schott Zwiesel for the past 3 or 4 months, and had absolutely no difficulty with broken glasses. Schott Zwiesel Basic Bar Selection by Charles Schumann Boston Shaker, 28.7 Ounce I'm afraid the Blomus shaker must have a design flaw of some kind.

There are two schools of thought for drink shakers, the Boston shaker and the capped shakers. The capped shakers come in all kinds of fun shapes and designs. They are pretty to look at, but leave a lot to be desired in the room to really shake a cocktail. They are convenient with their built in strainers. Every professional bartender uses some version of the Boston shaker - a glass and a solid cup.

This Boston shaker is a nice middle ground, sort of a Boston with training wheels that can be removed. The silicone rubber seal on the glass are the training wheels. There's a little trick to getting a good seal with a glass and a stainless steel cup, and that seal helps the first time user get it right. I'm not a professional bartender and was able to get the seal right the first time. Since the seal is removable, I can graduate to the real version. The rim of the glass is perfectly smooth so it will seal with the cup without using the rubber seal.

The glass is solid and heavy. The markings on the outside are nice, but really not necessary. The markings are painted on the outside of the glass - repeated washing in a dishwasher will remove them. Frankly, this should never go in a dishwasher - hot water rinse is all that is necessary for all the parts.

Overly aggressive shaking without thinking, I managed to break the glass. The proper way to use this shaker: pour the ice and ingredients over into the stainless steel cup. Push the glass down into the cup. Shake the assembly vertically, or in a farily vertical arc. If the ice cubes are crashing into the glass, you're shaking too hard and too horizontal. Drinks really only require a back and forth action, not an aggressive shaking. The added benefit to keeping the shaker more vertical, it is almost impossible to have drink leak out. Finsh with the drink in the stainless steel side, and strain out of that side. A lesson learned, thankfully Amazon replaced the shaker. I think is something that can happen with any Boston shaker and the glass container.

The stainless steel cup is outstanding, good heavy grade. The steel is nice and thick with a pleasant brushed surface on the outside. There are no seams anywhere on the cup.

The strainer is one of the more solid spring strainers I have ever seen.

A three piece set that is heavy duty, professional grade equipment. This is the essential tool to mixing cocktails properly.
Very Cheap Thin Glass Inaccurate Measuring Shaker 12 Feb. 2012

I would not recommend this product. The shaker glass is very thin and broke while removing the shaker after shaking a cocktail. Also the measuring graduations were inaccurate. You would be doing yourself a favor to go to a local store and find a high quality shaker for the same price. This product was overpriced for the quality.
Poor glass quality 1 Jun. 2011

I have had to return this shaker set twice - both times because the glass was cracked upon delivery. The box appeared to be in perfect shape too. A previous reviewer had stated their glass cracked after one year. Based on my experience they were lucky it lasted that long. I am now looking for another set.
Cracked after second use :( 22 May 2011

The design and style of this set is wonderful and it worked perfectly both times I used it. Then the glass cracked after the second use. Very disappointing.
