I first heard this album some 20 years ago in a dingy attic flat in Madrid when I was rather the worst for wear and it sent shivers down my spine. It still does. There is something discordant yet unifying about the whole album and I have never heard Archie Shepp play anything else remotely like it. And what do the lyrics mean? Wailing saxaphones, strident harmonica and the smokiestsexiest vocals. Be warned this album will either wow you from the first or you will want to turn it off within 30 seconds BUT don't! Remember: all of Ethiopia awaits you.
