This adaptor is great, it works super with my 135mm F:2.8 macro lens and my 500mm F:8 Mirror lens. some light compensation adjustment is needed on the Mirror lens but is easily changed on a Canon camera.
Focus is spot on with both lenses. I would suggest anyone use this item with their M42 lenses on their Canon EOS Digital.
I'm going to keep an eye out for more M42 lenses to buy, and purchase one of these adaptors for each lens.
Brilliant piece of kit !!!

The adapter is very well made and fits my EOS450D perfectly, but I am disappointed by the operation.

The chip makes the camera think the aperture is set to f1.4 and there is no way to make the camera think otherwise. With such a tight depth of field, trying to get the focus confirmation to light is all but impossible as you are trying to manually focus on a tiny point.

The only lens I have tried this with is a Carl Zeiss 50mm f2.8. If the focusing is difficult with that size of lens, I imagine it would be all but impossible with something longer.

All in all, disappointing. I'll have to save for genuine Canon lenses rather than use M42 alternatives.

Update
---------------------

After persisting with this for a few weeks I have grown more comfortable with it. It may be that my sausage-like fingers have grown more accustomed to manual focusing, or perhaps the focus ring on the lens has loosened a little after years of non-use. Whichever it is, the results are now far better and the quality of the Carl Zeiss lens gives far better colour and definition than the standard 18-55mm EF-S lens that came with the camera.

I did also try it with a 400mm telephoto, and as long as you can get to f5.6 or better in good light you can just about get the focus confirmation to work on that too, but it is difficult.

I'm now wavering between a 3 star and a 4 star review, and if given the option I would go for 3.5, but to be fair to the vendor I've changed my rating to 4 stars.

This adapter is a far too tight fit on my Canon EOS600D.
I was hoping that I would be able to use my M42 lenses with the camera, I tried it with a couple of lenses and it was OK, but when I came to remove the adapter from the camera, it was really firmly stuck and I was worried that I was going to damage the camera.
There is nothing to grip to aid removal, the 'knurled' edge is just not good enough.
I had to resort to a large rubber bung and friction to remove the adapter from my precious camera.

A great adapter!! using on a 450D with a prime lense on macro tubes and works great, focus confirm is super useful while taking close range shots.
A good way of getting started in photography on a budget, loads of cheap, good quality m42 lenses available 2nd hand. The whole macro setup only set me back £37, including the adapter!! and the snaps look Ace!!

Build quality is excellent, the bayonet fitting is tight and inspires confidence in its reliability.
Speedy delivery, amazon quoted up to 3 weeks to arrive, but was through the letter box in 2 days!!

Excellent product, super service, don't hesitate with this one...

These are great converters for converting old M42 lenses to Canon EOS. They are tight and there is autofocus confirmation. You might be able to get a tighter fit as there is still a little wiggle but for me they are tight enough. Also with rings in the past the autofocus has come away from the ring as the glue was not efficient enough. Needless to say this is a worry but this has not happened with these converters, well not yet anyway. Recommended product...

Bought to allow the use of a Pentax Takumar 55mm f1.8 legacy lens on a Canon 550D. If you are OK to use manual focus and aperture, then this performs flawlessly. It is simple to use, and makes use of the camera's locking pin via a small hole on the edge of the adapter, so no worry that it could fall off. The focus confirm chip is simpler than you would think-just listen for the beep as you half press the shutter button and you're there!

Works very well on a Canon 5D mkii (be aware that on the mkiii it seems not work as expected).

If you are curious about the result of the adapter with a helios 44-2 lens on a 5D mkii:

[...]

Don't forget that this ring is faking a specific lens (Canon EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6) in order to make the electronic works.

So it was a good purchase especially that the price of the adapter is quite low.
