I haven't tryed it on a DVD player, but I can play media files from it on my phone no problem. My guess is that the files he was ysing weren't compatible with that player, but as I said, I'm not absalutely certain on that.

It's just memory and comes with no software. If you want to encrypt the data you should use your own encryption software.
