The bit that the books actually sit on is 120 mm wide X 165 mm deep. I have hardback books up to 250 X 180 mm on my shelves, just make sure that you have very strong fixings suitable for your type of wall.

I would recommend against putting them into just plaster board - wood or brick for best results. That said they are very strong and the screws are excellent quality. If you can find the wood behind your plaster board that would work far better.
