I cannot be 100% certain but my seat sounds like the same. As far as I can see the only reason for the slots in the top of the plastic screw is so you can put the blade of a screwdriver in them so it will hold the screw while you tighten the so called nut from below. Mine worked just fine so good luck

Unfortunately I don't think anything invented to stop a toilet seat from moving. I used this set because one of the bolts on my loo seat snapped - I was over tightening it to stop the seat moving. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you find anything I would be interested to know. Good Luck
