I've read plenty of reviews for Panasonic's range of washing machines, and decided that this may help some people. Firstly, this was to replace a 7 year old Miele Premier 520, a fantastic machine but not large enough for our needs.

After doing lots of research, I decided on the NA-168VX4 due to the price, 8kg capacity, StainMaster, and extended warranties for the washing machine and motor, at 6 and 10 years respectively.

The first point I want to make is about nose levels. The old Miele's brushed motor, compared to some other manufacturers was relatively quiet, though it obviously got much louder on the final spin. The VX4 with it's Dc motor, on the other hand is quiet. In fact when washing and rinsing, the only noise you can hear are clothes moving inside the drum, and the occasional low noise from the pump running the water jets.

I've seen some people complaining that the noise when spinning is intrusive, but I've not experienced that. It is possible to have a full conversation without raising voices whilst standing next to it when it is spinning at 1600 RPM.

It has been able to tackle really mucky loads without issue, with clothes coming out very clean and well rinsed. It has equalled and surpassed the Miele's energy use, being able to wash even more clothes using the same or slightly less water and electricity. The 1600 RPM spin extracts much more water, cleaning that my drying times have been cut down. The ability to fill the 8kg drum without having to split loads into 2 or 3 parts means that I am saving quite a bit on water and electricity.

I had 7 years faithful service from the old machine, and I have high hopes for this one.

I'd be very careful before buying another Panasonic washing machine as they don't seem to have any interest in providing service. I have an earlier model big drum Panasonic machine (a NA-16VX1) and a small cover has broken off from the back of the drum - this is obviously there to protect clothes from the bolt heads holding the drum to the motor. Panasonic service agent want to charge me £138 upfront as a call out fee with no guarantee they will have the parts to fix it. Panasonic themselves will not sell spares and it appears as if there are few third-party spares suppliers that have a full range.

The machine itself has been pretty good, I love the big drum and its easy to use. We've had the odd small leak from the door, but nothing major and not consistently.

I will say I was surprised at the size of the door but once opened you can see why, as this machine has the biggest drum I've seen.

It is quiet in action and the clothes come out cleaner and far less creased than my old Zanussi washing machine. I would recommend this machine to anyone especially those with a large family and has the bonus of a 10 year warranty on the very quiet motor.

Recommend the machine, the best I've every bought. A little more expensive than I've previously paid but worth every penny.

Less than six months after purchasing my washing machine the bearings failed on the drum. To verify that the bearings had gone, Panasonic made the repair company strip the machine down to verify it was the bearings, even though you could hear them whining and feel them grinding when spinning the drum. They then replaced the machine for a new one, which I was initially quite pleased about.
Six months on again, and the machine started leaking, necessitating a full strip down and complete new detergent drawer container and pipework assembly. Then three months later, in March this year, the bearings went again. They sent an engineer out to check the bearings then told him to contact them to see what was needed. Then they sent him the parts, but told him not to carry out the work until checking to see how many wash cycles it had completed, but they gave him the wrong instructions to do so. This was three weeks ago and I have not heard from them since, so my machine is stood idle.
Their customer service department is a joke, just time wasting e-mails in reply and I am now totally fed up with their lack of empathy and lack of interest in repairing my machine, which is still supposedly under warranty.
In short, less than 18 months of owning a Panasonic washing machine equates to two sets of bearings and a new detergent drawer assembly- not a good sign of reliability in my eyes!
I have never had so many issues in such a short space of time with any washing machine, and in 20 years have owned in turn two Hotpoints and a Bosch, all lasting well over five years apiece. I will never buy any Panasonic product again I'm sorry to say, and would certainly not recommend them to anyone with this poor level of service.

O have had this washing machine for just over 2 years, and was initially happy with it. Unfortunately I have now been without a washing machine for two months due to the terrible service from Pansonic. They have sent the wrong parts a total of 4 times to their designated repair centre! The only way I am able to contact them is through emails, to which they will respond by email. There is no opportunity to speak to anyone regarding the issues and I feel very frustrated with the overall lack of service. Purchasing a Pansonic Washing Machine could be a very expensive mistake if any thing does go wrong... I will never purchase a Pansonic item again after this experience
