This book is supposedly written and endorsed by so-called scholars in the field of sexuality and sex abuse. I've read a "scholarly article" from a person like that who was promoting his career by "discovering and detailing" a new category of pedophiliacs, citing Michael Jackson as his prime example. He used secondary sources including tabloid media to construct and promote his theory, as academics are wont to do (promote their own theories, that is. Most academics would not be caught dead using tabloid journalism as a source for theory-making, research, or anything else other than to research the social implications of such tabloid praxis). Published online right after Jackson's death.
So, we'll get all sorts of endorsements from this field--be aware of how that promotes careers but avoids accountability for the social impacts of such theorizing and assertions.
On another note, the credentials of the author of this book? "A Michael Jackson fan since the King of Pop's childhood rise to fame with the Jackson Five, Carl Toms is a veteran journalist who was based for many years in the Middle East."
Are we persuaded by this claim to authority? Let the buyer beware.
After the 15 years of bullying Michael Jackson and trashing his name in every possible way the devious onslaught against him has now entered a new stage - that of gentle lies masquerading as the truth and soothing reassurances meant to convince the general public of the author's `unbiased attitude' and `very best intentions'.
What am I talking about? I am talking about the 624-page book by a Carl Toms to come out soon which is being advertised as an all-inclusive research into Michael's `real' relationship with boys.
This new `scientific' and seemingly objective approach may turn out very effective for Michael's haters and their audience. The general public is really fed up with all those blatant lies about Jackson and thinks that some justice should be done to the man at last - so it is time for all the negativity to be fed into the people's minds in a soft and `unbiased' way without them ever noticing that they are swallowing the same old LIE.
How do they do that? Nothing can be easier - just look at the editorial review from Amazon.com announcing the book to be released on June 7, 2010 (scheduled to mark the 1st anniversary of Michael Jackson's death?). See how well in advance the preparation works starts and how gracefully the same old lies are being worded now:
"Not just another book about `Wacko Jacko'" (so much respect for Michael Jackson!)
"This vivid and insightful commentary is a joy to read" (isn't it enjoyable to slander the deceased man in a witty and hilarious way?)
"A must-read for those who believe he truly loved children but are not so sure about his innocence..." (see what happens to your beliefs after you read it...)
"Michael Jackson spent the wedding night of his second marriage not with his bride but with his best man an eight-year-old boy". (hideous to say the least...)
In fact the wedding took place on November 15, 1996 just several hours before Michael's departure for his tour in Australia. He left the US after the plain civil wedding ceremony at a presidential suite of the Sheraton hotel. Debbie Rowe was 6 months pregnant at the time. Just compare this news with "the wedding night with a boy" and you might see a little difference between the two ways to present facts.
no one wants to read lies and their OPINION about what they think. This person is NOT Carl Toms!
Why and who woud buy a book like this - Michael Jackson fans will be incensed and only boycott it. Michael Jackson haters will buy it so that they can upset the fans. Voyeurs will love it - of course!! The family will be shocked and the children - well how do you explain this to them? About time bookstore started being a bit more selective in what books they offer the public and to sometimes make a stand against such books as these which are based on opinions and the subject is no longer able to defend himself. Amazon a question? Why did you take so long to stock Aprodite Jones Conspiricy which actually had facts about Michael Jackson? And never in stock? I wonder how many of this book you have stocked up on?
God, that's awful. Can I use your comment on my blog? It's called Am I Scary for You? Minstresly, Metamorphosis and Michael Jackson. It's pro-Jackson while being realistic. Thanks for adding your voice to this book topic.
Thank GOD someone else started posting there opinons here. I've been here since March 25th waiting for someone in the UK to post how AWFUL this book is gonna be. We don't need to read it - the Advance reading info is enough! We have, in the US, websites all over the place boycotting it.
