Book Description

5 Oct 2000
Clad in flowing linen robes, adorned with jewels, pampered by servants, Heb-Nefert led a life of leisure and joy with her royal husband on the banks of the Nile. Now she lies, a mummy, encased in glass in a museum, and recalls the days of long ago. "A mummy's moving soliloquy on youth, love and the fleeting nature of life is the centerpiece of this hauntingly beautiful picture book."--"Publishers Weekly"

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for KS2 teachers exploring Ancient Egypt! 29 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
Stunning illustrations matched by imaginative text. A real insight into the mind of an Egyptian Mummy. Lots to talk about with children who have read it - a good way to help them understand that 'mummies' were once real people with lives and families.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dramatic book 13 Jun 2013

The words in this book really move the reader. My TA and I almost to tears but the children also felt sad and reflected on the words. We all learnt much more about the reality of mummification.
This is a book with poetic language which leaves a lasting impression.

Lovely book. Used with Year 3 when studying Ancient Egypt. Mummies, for them, being the most fascinating thing about the topic!

5.0 out of 5 stars not for children 27 Nov 1999
By Steve Donoghue - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I can't easily picture a kid who would appreciate even a quarter of all the subtlety packed into this thin book, and I'm not sure I'd want to meet a kid who did. But Oh! For adults, what a haunting, utterly unforgettable treat! This is a book full of color and joy, and yet it's one of the single saddest books I've read in English - and the entire spectrum presented with no fanfare or folderol whatsoever. When you read it out loud - and I feel pretty sure you will - be sure to pause a little extra for the last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking Back 28 Jan 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautiful and poignant remembrance of a woman who lived many years ago, looking back on her past as an egypitian queen as she lies on display in a museum. A really fantastic children's book with gorgeous illustrations.

Amazing artwork! This is a beautiful book for anyone who loves Ancient Egypt. It's also a thought-provoking story, considering the transience of a woman's beauty. I loved the rhythmic language, and especially the amazing illustrations. A wonderful addition to any bookshelf!
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun story 17 July 2012

I bought the book for my mummy unit and I cut it up to use as a narrative input story - works well. Illustrations are beautiful and the story is written well. Fun to hear a mummy story from a different point of view.
