About the Artist

Chicago Bluesman Willie Dixon was perhaps best known for his songwriting. He wrote or co-wrote over 500 songs and his songs have been recorded by some of the best-known blues musicians of his era, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Buddy Guy. Later, his songs were popularized by groups, such as The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Cream and Led Zeppelin, whose 'Whole Lotta Love' was loosely based on Dixon's 'You Need Love'. On this 1970 LP, the quintessential blues songwriter performs his own tunes - every one a classic: 'I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man', 'The Little Red Rooster', 'Spoonful' and of course 'Back Door Man'. Long overdue, the album was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1986, whereas Willie Dixon was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

This is a very enjoyable album to listen to on a long drive or on a warm summer evening, accompanied with a glass of wine. It provides no fireworks, rather a solid and thoroughly professional rendition of some of the titles made famous by others. Jim Morrison sounds much less restrained when he sings "Back Door Man", Ten Years After are more engaging on "Spoonful", and Muddy Waters really makes "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man" rock. What Willie Dixon does in this album brings all of the above together on equal footing, and his deep, warm and husky voice is certainly something none of the others have. I don't have any of the other albums by Willie Dixon, so I can not compare this one to the others. On its own, however, I very much recommend it.

A great album from one of the great names of the blues world. There are some great songs on this album, made famous by other great artists. The album was well-packed and in perfect condition. It arrived ahead of schedule and was good value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to order from this seller again.

not quite the voice of muddy or wolf but the originals from the writer. these are the songs how willie dixon intended them to sound. interesting but less dramatic/ more laid back than the covers by his more famous label mates.

Without the likes of Willie Dixon who knows where the blues would be today. He produced some of the great standards that bands like Led Zeppelin and Jeff Beck still play. Willie helped make blues the force it is today and for that we should be grateful. A must for true blues fans.

Willie Dixon was such a player on the Chicago scene writing as he did almost all of the classic blues tracks that were released on the Chess label by artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf and Little Walter
