I already had a perfectly good enclosure which I intended to use with my new 2.5inch 750GB drive. When the new HDD arrived I discovered it was too thick to fit(12.5mm instead of 9.5mm).This is why I needed this enclosure as it is capable of fitting both sizes. There was very little choice as 12.5mm enclosures are rare!I chose this one because I did not want USB 3.0 as none of my devices are USB 3.0 capable. Also I have read reviews saying the sockets are too fragile. The first Akasa had a faulty USB interface and was not even recognised. The replacement did work, but just as the first was poorly constructed and its case slightly distorted.I didn't return it as it was cosmetic only.
    CRITICISM:
    1) There was no vent hole above the vent hole in the HDD which must "not be obstructed".As the spring under the drive pushes the drive up tight to the case it completely seals the vent.(This was fixed by drilling a 1mm hole)
2)The screws that hold the end panels on are so loose that the threads only grip at all because the holes are out of alignment (otherwise they would just fall-out!!!)
3)The usb and esata sockets were misaligned and I had a great deal of trouble getting them through the end panel. This was exacerbated by the increased tension on the ribbon cables due to the thicker drive forcing down the spring loaded PCB.
4)I'm not sure but I think it's only running at USB 1.0 speed because it seems very slow to me compared to my other two external drives (but I could be mistaken)

All in all I would not buy another unless I absolutely had to.It is poorly constructed and needs too much fiddling about with!

It is quite difficult to place the hard drive properly and always feels like i am about the break the whole thing. You have to be careful which way you replace the grill as well as it only fits one way up. The case provided doesnt fit properly as the holes are no properly placed so it is difficult to plug cables in. Once i managed to put it together it worked ok.

Bought this to house a Western Digital WD10TPVT 1TB 2.5" Hard Drive. They're 12.5mm disks and this enclosure fits them perfectly (thought at a couple of points it wouldn't but it does).

The enclosure can house both IDE and Sata drives. It has both USB (standard mini USB on unit) and eSata connectors (cables also supplied). There is a small switch to switch between them. On USB to USB I managed to get it to run off a forward port on my PC using just the USB connection. The eSata required hooking up the DC power connector (DC to USB), though leaving the USB to USB cable on works just as well as a secondary power source. Nice little leather pouch to go with it.

    Good unit.

This is one of the few cases that will genuinely hold a 1Tb 2.5 inch SATA drive, which is taller that lower capacity drives. Good connection options and easy assembly. Good build quality too.
