Product Description

Product Description

The publication of the first edition of Traction Recognition gave information about all of the locomotives and multiple units operated on Britain s main-line railways. This second edition is the fully revised and expanded volume, covering significant changes to the railways of Britain since publication of the first edition. In particular a large number of new franchisees have entered the business, resulting in a number of new liveries, whilst further open access operators have also emerged. New types of rolling stock have also been delivered, most notably the Class 395 EMUs designed for service over the high-speed line from Kent to London. Colin J Marsden has recorded the changes over the past 3 years making this the most up to date Traction Recognition title on the market, a must have for any rail enthusiast.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first opened this book. It has a large number of clear colour photographs that enhance the very detailed descriptions of every locomotive, multiple unit & carriage that is in use on the rail network. It is not a list of numbers; that can be found in the companion book by Colin Marsden: Rail Guide. Comprehensive details of each item of traction from dimensions, seat capacity, tractive effort, maximum speed, date of build, etc. are found in this book. If you are in any way interested in the trains that run in our country today, you will find this book an extremely informative reference.

Railway Books 11 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book has a very extensive amount of information for anyone who wants to know about what is running on our railways today.

As per usual Colin Marsden has provided a good selection of hi quality photos to describe each class of locomotive or Units.

A worth while read for anyone who likes the technical side of the railway industry

Format:Hardcover
Traction Recognition is a comprehensive guide to (non steam) rolling stock that is certified for mainline use on Network Rail lines. It contains a wealth of colour photographs and technical data about each type of train, such as top speed, year built, engine output etc...

It contains a number of illustrations of driving cab interiors and train exteriors that are connotated with details on what each 'thing' actually is.

Only complant I have of the book is that the number (or lack) of pages devoted to some train types seems to bear no relation to the number trains in use or the routes they serve. However, this is a minor niggle.
