I bought two of these 4 port Gigabit powerline switches and they work pretty well together provided you don't expect too much or believe the 500Mbps ratings.

My front room consists of: HTPC, Panny 50vt50 TV, Panny 310-Blu-ray player, PS3, skyHD, Anthem Av-Amp, Zyxel NSA310. The loft has a decent PC gaming rig.
The Sky router has 4 ports so the majority are of the above wifi and these in turn fight with my other wifi devices(tablets, phones, music streamers, Philips livigincolor lamps etc!) and these 4port units would enable the whole lot to be wired.
Why do I want everything wired on Ethernet you may ask?
WiFi channels are nearly all in use in my area, I can find over 15 networks within range of my laptop. Even if I do move to a better wifi-n dual band unit the problem is likely to happen again when other home users start upgrading also.
The house is old, but the electrics were replaced only 5-10 years ago, so I thought lets try these.

Testing...
The NAS is Zxyel NSA310 isn't the fastest test devices, so I mainly used my mediapc and laptop which both have very fast Sandisk SSD drives (400+Read,300+write) and Gb NIC cards to illustrate 'best possible' with the equipment I have.
The NAS, mediaPC,router and one Zyxel plug stay static and I move the second zyxel unit steadily up the house with the laptop and copy the exact same file.

nas > router > zyxel > zyxel > laptop 11MB/s front room
nas > router > zyxel > zyxel > laptop 7.2MB/s kitchen
mediapc > zyxel > zyxel > laptop 11MB/s kitchen(no router)
nas > router > laptop 2.26MB/s wifi in front room

mediapc > zyxel > zyxel > laptop 5.44MB/s bedroom
Nas > router > zyxel > zyxel > laptop 4.5MB/s bedroom
Nas > router > laptop 2.

Reliable fast and connects to other AV500 gadgets without any fuss at all, no problems so far with smart TV, PS4 and sky HD box running at same time with a single port AV500 switch connecting to the router to allow internet access. Solid but chunky device needs a bit of space and may not allow enough space for a large plug next to it. Best to use directly into a wall plug and especially not in a filtered multiplug. Software not needed a bit difficult to find a use for! Only comes with one Ethernet lead though.

I've had one of these for about 3 yrs running games consoles and sky through it and until now all fine. However all of a sudden there is no power light on it (irrespective of which plug socket I use) and as unusual screws I can't open it to see if a blown fuse is the cause. So now I'm stuck with trying to find a new 4 port power line adapter or rebut this model again.

I bought this switch to use with an existing set up consisting of TP Link Powerline adaptors.
I know that they are all supposed to work together but you know how these things are in real life.

As it turned out it was simple once I ignored the instructions which came with the ZyXEL switch.
Starting up the TP-Link configuration tool was all that was needed, it picked up the new ZyXEL switch and it all just worked.

I had to buy the ZyXEL Poweline Adaptor kit (two plugs) to get this to work - which it did instantly without having to do any re-sets. It would not work with my original Talk-Talk powerlines, but I am happy as this is a substantial upgrade in speed capability - and best of all - it works; feeding three ethernet ports on my AV setup. I was advised to connect the ethernet cables into live devices fist (Apple TV, BD player, You-View box) so that they could be "recognised'. No linking with computers was required, as per the very confusing instructions, which at first put me off using it.
