Not the cheapest head torch but, if you can afford it, well worth the money. I bought it for winter running and the brightness and focusability mean that you can run with confidence even off road. I even took it out in heavy rain and it didn't let me down. My favoured setup is to wear the battery pack on my belt and pass the cable underneath my running top. It takes 4 AA batteries and I invested in rechargeable batteries (2000MaH) which give 25-30 minutes reliably on full brightness. After that it drops to a dimmer setting which should at least get you out of trouble. I originally bought this torch because I liked the idea of being able to mount the torch itself on a belt at waist level (as I was a bit self-conscious about wearing it on my head) but I would say to anybody considering this that although it will probably be fine if you are just walking or standing about, for running it is not a satisfactory solution as the beam swings all over the place as you run. It is best mounted on your head as you naturally keep your head still during running and the beam remains fixed in your field of vision. After a couple of runs I soon got over any feelings of self-consiousness and after all it is dark! My run takes me through a variety of lit and unlit areas and through sustained lit areas (say 30 seconds to a minute) I tend to turn it off to conserve batteries. This is particularly easy with the battery pack (and switch) mounted on your belt. Also it is easy to adjust focus and angle of beam while running and another tip for cold weather running if you have a close fitting wooly hat or similar, just mount the head torch over the top of it (I do!). I have no regrets over investing in this torch and would highly recommend to anybody who needs a good quality reliable head-torch.

I enjoy sea kayaking and as you get into winter or go on expeditions, there's always the risk you'll need to keep going in the evening so a headtorch is a useful bit of kit. I spent some time researching and chose the Petzl Pixa 3 as it was waterproof to 1m. I did look seriously at this LED Lenser model as it's around the same price, but while water resistant, it's not waterproof.
At the same time a friend bought this LED Lenser and we recently went out cycling in the dark wearing the headtorches. All I can say is the LED Lenser blew the Petzl Pixa away with it's power. As I cycled in front the LED Lenser behind made me into a shadow on the ground in front that the Petzl struggled to see into. I would compare it to car headlights - the Petzl was the car with dipped headlights, the LED Lenser was the car on full beam!
All in all, I'm still pleased with the Petzl for the waterproof element, but if the LED Lenser was waterproof I would change immediately!

+ Incredible quality build
- Relatively heavy, but not uncomfortably so
Overall, if you don't need a totally waterproof solution but may want to take it out in the odd shower, this is the headtorch to buy. No other headtorch I've ever owned (and I've had a few with hiking) stands up to it!

Great head torch. It is very bright and comes with bicycle handlebar attachment. Only downside with it so far is the life of the batteries on full power. I know you can turn it down but why buy a bright torch then turn it down?
