Product Description

Product Description
A novel which features the literary novelist Nathan Zuckerman. Zuckerman, dogged by personal neuroses and ill-health, has to contend with a tough television celebrity, who accuses him of plagiarising his personal life, whilst watching his father's terminal illness move towards its sad conclusion.

About the Author
In 1997 Philip Roth won the Pulitzer Prize for American Pastoral. In 1998 he received the National Medal of Arts at the White House, and in 2002 received the highest award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Gold Medal in Fiction, previously awarded to John Dos Passos, William Faulkner, and Saul Bellow, among others. He has twice won the National Book Award, the PEN/Faulkner Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. In 2005, Philip Roth will become the third living American writer to have his work published in a comprehensive, definitive edition by the Library of America. The last of the eight volumes is scheduled for publication in 2013. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paranoia still rules, 23 Aug 2008

This review is from: Zuckerman Unbound (Paperback)
What a great book. I read it in less than two days and the story and the characters stayed with me for a long time. I have only started to read Roth's books this year and this one has been the best one so far. Alvin Peppler, Zuckerman's nemesis, is such a great character and he is one of the reasons why this book got me hooked. The story itself is great as it tells what happens to a writer once he becomes too famous. I recomend it to all lovers of great literature. Going to buy another Philip Roth book now.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good place to start, 29 April 2009
By William (Buckinghamshire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zuckerman Unbound (Paperback)
How Alvin Pepler would have loved Amazon for the opportunities it gave him to post reviews (probably in dozens of different names) of Zuckerman's novel Carnovsky. He would have been able to call him the Proust of Newark and get away with it.
OK, this won't make much sense to anyone who hasn't read this comic masterpiece, but Zuckerman Unbound is great place to start if you want to find out why Roth is one of the world's greatest living writers. This short, accessible novel has everything: humour, uncompromising truth and humanity. Now I really do sound like Pepler...
