Worth the time to read. Helps you have a good foundation of knowledge for raising children. Remember though, this book is REAL old so many of the examples and ideas are outdated. Combine it with a good current book such as Kid Cooperation (How to Stop Yelling, Nagging and Pleading) by Elizabeth Pantley or Positive Parenting by Jane Nelsen.

This book provides an excellent overview of Dreikurs primary theories and thoughts, based both upon his Adlerian training and upon his own ideas. He uses the American system of democracy to its fullest, and explains how to interact with children, who, like adults, are free and innately powerful. His four goals are simple and instrumental in learning the positive goals of children, and of individuals in general, and they help to release parents from the "power trap" that they are in. Excellent, well written, and a powerful tool for change.

I was recommended this book - and passed a well-thumbed copy (which is praise indeed).

I'm expecting twins with my wife and find the book not only illuminating about the prospects for our kids, but also for how we ourselves have developed into the patterns of our character and personality.

This book seems to give some good steady advice, particularly it seems to ring true for an energetic dad who wants to grow robust and positive kids.
