Spain released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), Spanish ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Filmographies, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Mexico, 1840s. When the new Spanish Governor begins to grind the peasants under his heel, wealthy landowner Don Diego Vega (George Hamilton) follows in his late father's footsteps and becomes Zorro, the masked man in black with a sword who rights wrongs and becomes a folk hero to the people of Mexico. When Vega sprains his ankle and cannot figure out how to continue his campaign against the corrupt Captain Esteban, luck stays with Vega when his long-lost twin brother Ramon (also George Hamilton in a dual role), who was sent off by their father to the British Royal Navy to make a 'man' of him, whom is also flamboyantly gay, and now known as Lt. Bunny Wigglesworth, appears for a visit. 'Bunny' agrees to temporarily take his brother's place as Zorro, but wishes to make some changes. Bunny becomes 'the Gay Blade' in which his new suits are lemon, plum, and scarlet colored, and Bunny insists on using a whip. Bunny also becomes the liaison between Don Vega and the liberal American activist/feminist Charlotte (Lauren Hutton) a long-time critic of Captain Esteban's policies, and who has a crush on her masked hero. Not sure if you'd really understand this one unless you are already a Zorro fan. As I am, I've enjoyed all versions I've seen of Zorro, from the simply splendid Tyrone Power version (still my favourite with one of the best screen swordfights ever, even better than Flynn in Robin Hood) to the Banderas great fun movies to the recent jolly stage musical in London. If you are tempted to see this without any prior knowledge of Zorro, I'd suggest you read up the original story online first. This is a real fun takeoff so you need to know what is being taken off....

Great fun 19 Mar 2010
Format:DVD
What a great way to spend a couple of hours in a 'they-don't-make-'em-like-that-anymore' quality comedy. George Hamilton displays really quite remarkable comic acting ability in terms of timing and versatility. The need for him to switch between two characters 'live' such as when Ramon first tries to be Zorro is limited, but it is spell-binding nonetheless. The fun with the English and Spanish languages is consistently funny, and apart from just slightly running out of steam right at the end, the whole film keeps a knowing smile on its face throughout.
Good, more-or-less clean fun that manages to be charming, intelligent and witty while only very rarely seeming contrived (given that the whole thing is artifice from beginning to end) and with no unpleasant edge to it at all. But that's only if you're prepared to enter into the spirit of the film in the first place. What you get out of this film is very much dependent on what you want to get out of it. It helps if you know a little Spanish but I don't think it would hurt if you don't.
My favourite scene is when the Alcalde is unmasking multiple Zorros while dressed himself as Henry VIII. It's the shoes.

DVD comedies 2 Oct 2011
Format:DVD
This is a very fummy film but the sound quality on the DVD is terrible. Very difficult to hear the dialogue. The supplier, however, was excellent delivering in a fraction of the time they had estimated when they acknowledged the order.
