One of a handful of pop groups in the latter half of the 1990s to exploit the renewed interest in American roots (swing, big band, soul) music, this Eugene, Oregon ensemble scored big with a neat modern update of the old school. Purists take note: Cherry Poppin' Daddies built a following by touring with third-wave ska outfits like Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Reel Big Fish, prompting main Daddy Steve Perry to wryly call his group "third-wave swing". But post-Swingers dance fanatics (rockabilly retro-cats, modern-day sockhoppers, and Royal Crown Revue boosters) don't sweat the particulars. Charged horn arrangements, bouncy rhythms, and saucy verve effectively recall masters like Basie, Cab, and Ol' Blue Eyes while injecting an unmistakable post-punk ethic. --Mark Woodlief

This is such a fun album. It's classic toe-tapping, hip swinging, head nodding brilliance. If you do not know Cherry Poppin Daddies, they have taken the States by storm with their very retro, swinging 30s style music. Think "Big Band" cross 1930's Chicago night-club. It's sort of a 30's swing with a modern twist. My favourite song is definitely the title song, "Zoot Suit Riot", but my favourite title has to be "Ding Dong Daddy of the D' Car Line" may take time to grow on you...but it definitely will!

Zoot suit riot - aptly titled, is a fantastic riotously lively swing album. One of my favorite cds ever. Great for getting rowdy and stumbling around to when drunk (or sober - but its more fun to swing to when drunk) This one is a MUST

I hadn't ever really listened to such lively music before, or swing like this, and it really does make you want to dance (no sarcasm)
Think more people should listen to it. Everyone who I've lent it to think it's great, too.
