5.0 out of 5 stars It Really Is A Riot! 16 Nov 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is such a fun album. It's classic toe-tapping, hip swinging, head nodding brilliance. If you do not know Cherry Poppin Daddies, they have taken the States by storm with their very retro, swinging 30s style music. Think "Big Band" cross 1930's Chicago night-club. It's sort of a 30's swing with a modern twist. My favourite song is definitely the title song, "Zoot Suit Riot", but my favourite title has to be "Ding Dong Daddy of the D' Car Line" may take time to grow on you...but it definitely will!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic 5 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
How to describe the Cherry Poppin' Daddies? Jive mixed with Jazz mixed with Swing mixed with Ska mixed with Rock mixed with a Big Band style all topped off with the feeling that you really should be wearing a ridiculously shouldered orange and green pinstripe suit each time you listen to it. This album really does have that effect. It will have you clicking your fingers every step of the way.
It might surprise a few people who have never heard of them that this is a greatest hits album. It certainly surprised me having only looked up the band after hearing one of their songs on the BASEketball soundtrack. Intrigued, I downloaded the first and title track off this album, 'Zoot Suit Riot' and I was hooked. From that bouncy opening the songs fly between fast-paced dittys with twisted morals ('Mister White Keys', 'Ding-Dong Daddy') to slower, Blues Brother-esque numbers ('Here Comes The Snake') through romantic ballads ('When I Change Your Mind, Come Back To Me').
Summing up then...given the modern trend towards fast-paced, loud-as-possible rock and 'two beeps-one beep-repeat' dance c**p, this album really is a breath of fresh, original air. Stick it in your cd player and before you know it you'll be trying every jazz dance move you've ever heard of, I guarantee it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, lively, swinging 13 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Zoot suit riot - aptly titled, is a fantastic riotously lively swing album. One of my favorite cds ever. Great for getting rowdy and stumbling around to when drunk (or sober - but its more fun to swing to when drunk) This one is a MUST

5.0 out of 5 stars A BRILLIANT album. 5 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Cherry Poppon Daddies sound is full of contradictions. Authentic, yet original Rock and Roll, with a traditional feel but a modern delivery. Every track is excellent. A polished delivery of a raw and energetic sound. A mix of Rock and Roll beats and jazz with strong vocals, great harmonies and brass backing. If you like traditional Rock and Roll or Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller or Louis Jordan then you should love this.
This is the only album of theirs I have heard so I am now off in search of more via Amazon.
