The Zookeeper of the films title is Griffin Keyes (Kevin James -
King of Queens) , who, being turned down flat when proposing to his girlfriend Stephanie (Leslie Bibb -
Popular) because he isnt the man she wanted to turn him into(or something). Anyway, 5 years of regret & pining for her while Griffin works for the Zoo, a chance encounter at his brothers pre-wedding party, he meets Stephanie again. Where upon he gets help of the Wild variety to try & win her back, with mixed consequences.
Overall this film is kind of similar ground to the sucessfull
Night At The Museum films, so it is very much a family orientated movie. Kevin James does well with what he's given, in similar romantic style to his role in
Hitch where he plays the big guy with the even bigger heart. Rosario Dawson (
Seven Pounds) was kinda the standout human actor, lol, she & James had good acting chemistry. I was a little dissapointed with the Stephanie "Bimbo" stereotype, but overall i think the moral of the story is a good one for children.
The Animals of the Zoo are all voiced by some well & not so well known Hollywood names, with Adam Sandler (His production company Happy Maddison back this film & a bit of movie trivia, Mrs Sandler appears as the TGI Friday waitress), Cher(THE Cher), Nick Nolte(48Hrs), Silvester Stallone(Rocky), Jon Favreau(Couples Retreat) & a few other more States side well known Celebs.
In conclusion, this is nice viewing if you want to sit down with the kids & enjoy a movie with them & get something out of it yourself, albeit a bit predictable story wise concerning the romance. It's not anywhere near as good as the original Night at the Museum film, but more on par with the lesser(imo) 2nd Museum film. I thought it worked out Ok for what they were trying to achieve, but obviously a Zoo oreintated cash in on the Museum franchise at the end of the day. and lets just say, i dont think you should be in any anticipation of a sequel. it's enjoyable, but not the best in the genre, thus i cant fully Reccomend it.
