Zoo Tycoon was a runaway sim success. The combination of cute and cuddly, resource management and ecology made it a hit with adults and kids alike. The first expansion pack adds dinosaurs into the mix. Dinosaur Digs is more of the same winning formula and adds to, rather than radically changes, the existing gameplay. There are over two-dozen new species, from everyone's favourite glam-rock predator, the T-Rex, to the more harmless end of the evolutionary spectrum the Camptosaurus.
Some themed buildings such as the dino-burger stand and mammoth cone ice-cream parlour are included, as well as extra staff that specialise in the care and containment of your reptilian chums. Alongside the beasts themselves, there is some new foliage and caves and huge electrified fencing to keep the beasties in and free from rampaging.
The game itself is unchanged; you get six extra dino-centric missions such as creating an ice-age park and a Dinosaur Digs tutorial to introduce the new elements. What is different is the way in which you acquire and raise the dinos. Rather than exporting fully-fledged specimens, you are given eggs and have to employ research scientists who care for their embryonic charges until they hatch. These then grow up into adult dinos. However, there is still the opportunity for amorous antics and the pitter-patter of tiny hooves to add to your growing brood.
Enhancements to the existing game include the ability to filter various elements of you park on and off and a new screen on the main zoo status display lets you track the profitability of commercial buildings such as restaurants, animal theatres and gift shops.
Graphically the new features are great; there are some good effects such as the volcanoes and geysers erupting and fun sound effects such as the menacing snarling and ear-drum shattering roars. But don't expect massive advances in gameplay and if you have already played the original game to death you might find this first add on a bit samey, but played together it is a well done (if not particularly ground-breaking) extension of a brilliant game. --Emma Turner

Released in America, where i've played Dino Digs, a short time ago, this add on to the popular Zoo Tycoon is sure to be a hit over here.
The game adds 20+ dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals, as well as new fences, staff, foliage, themed shops, a playgroud and a crazy golf.
Lots of new features provide lots to do, and even better, the game blends perfecty with the old game. Allowing you to interate you new items in your old zoos by loading the saved games and adding them to parks that weren't doing as well.
The prehistoric creatures can also co-exist in exhibits with modern day beasts - giving you another goal to meet. The new senarios are slightly different to the old ones, as the dinosaurs are almost completely different - with them being larger and so they need a different fence, dinosuar staff and will domore damage if let loose.
All-in-all i found this game very enjoyable and will cerainly buy it when it comes out over here!

Dinosaur Digs, the Zoo Tycoon add on is a fantastic expansion on the original Zoo Tycoon Game.
With the added bonus of dinosaur related items to buy for example lava pits, geysers, dinosaur crazy golf, dinosaur burger shack and a dinosaur cinema it will keep you busy and entertained for hours creating your very own Jurassic Park.
Six new scenarios bring you bigger and harder challenges, new animals include sabre tooth cats, T-Rexs and Velociraptors.
Additional staff are required to look after these new ferocious beasts, who escape frequently if you do not provide the correct enclosure; make sure you hire a dinosaur recovery team or things will get messy.
As with the original Zoo Tycoon game, this will keep you entertained and engrossed for many hours of gameplay. It is suitable for both children and adults making it a perfect family choice, the only downside is you may have to draw up a rota for whose turn it is on the PC!

Dinosaur Digs makes the original game a lot more fun. You get a wide range of prehistoric beasts to choose from including mammoths, sabertooth tigers, T-Rexes...etc.
There's a few new shops and stalls and many new zoo improvements like new paths and features like lava pits and new dinosaur statues.
There are other new features added too which aren't dinosaur related but enhance the gameplay of Zoo Tycoon. For example, there are new buttons on the menu which allow you to hide foliage, guests and buildings so you can get a better view of the park. Trampled terrain is also made easier to see.
The guests also have more interesting thoughts like "I love a good slide" or "Ouch, I've just been attacked by a dinosaur".
If you liked the original, you will find it a lot more fun with this expansion. Whilst Zoo Tycoon got a bit repetitive after a long while, Dinosaur Digs should keep you playing for a long time.
