Book Description

3 Sep 2012
For thirty-six years, James Patterson has written unputdownable, pulse-racing novels. Now, he has written a book that surpasses all of them. "ZOO" is the thriller he was born to write. All over the world, brutal attacks are crippling entire cities. Jackson Oz, a young biologist, watches the escalating events with an increasing sense of dread. When he witnesses a coordinated lion ambush in Africa, the enormity of the impending violence becomes terrifyingly clear. With the help of ecologist Chloe Tousignant, Oz races to warn world leaders before it's too late. The attacks are growing in ferocity, cunning, and planning, and soon there will be no place left for humans to hide. With wildly inventive imagination and white-knuckle suspense that rivals Stephen King at his very best, James Patterson's "ZOO" is an epic, non-stop thrill-ride.

I have read many of James Patterson's book and enjoyed most of them. I was looking forward to reading this after having it recommended to me and also because I was intrigued by the concept - what would happen if animals turned against humans?

Well where to start? The flawed science didn't bother me as I suspect it will a lot of more pedantic readers, after all this is fiction. Rather the poor writing, terrible characters and lack of any tension or anything that really made me want to read on.

I found the main character really hard to like or to empathise with. Other supporting characters felt like they didn't really have any substance or interesting characteristics. The book is a respectable length but at times it felt like nothing was really happening. I kept putting this book down and not getting that feeling of I need to find out what happens next. More like I felt like I should struggle to the end because it might get better. Plus the ending isn't great - no spoilers here, maybe it is meant to shock but it just felt like such a cop out.

I think the idea was good and probably would be excellent if it had been more well executed. I don't like to criticise books but I really did feel this was a poor effort by Mr Patterson. If you want to read a James Patterson book then actually I would highly recommend checking out some of his young adult books - seriously they are a whole class above Zoo!

This is the first time i have read a James patterson novel and i found the short paragraphs very helpful, as it kept the interest going. Very impressed with the story line and would recommend this book to anyone who likes a credible story

Patterson with a difference and really at his best. This was brilliant - loved every page turning minute but then I love animals, so I guess that helped. I actually think Patterson writes better with another author - sorry James, but there you are!

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this the future?
A very good interesting story made me want to keep turning the page. It may seem a little far fetched but the idea behind it may hold some sense in the future, wait and see.
