For this review I'm going to stick to factual information about the DVD. Critical opinion of the film itself has already been taken care of by other reviewers...!
Notice the 18 cert on the DVD pack shot? And the 15 cert on the Amazon product info? To clarify: the film itself claims to be a 15 cert and (noted in very small writing on the back cover) the 18 cert is due to a trailer included on the DVD. You don't often see publishers placing "certificate inappropriate" trailers on discs, forcing the certificate of the package as a whole to be raised above that of the main feature for the sake of a trailer, but it's not unheard of. So let's give publisher Point Blank the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure it's not just a cynical attempt to sucker people into thinking they'll at least get some decent 18-rated gore here. At least the certification situation is more obvious here on Amazon than if you were looking at the physical product in a bricks and mortar shop.
The back cover of the DVD claims (quote) "Extra Features include: Commentary, Visual FX demo, Behind the Scenes documentary, 5.1 Surround Sound, Trailers" - only one of which is actually true. Yes, there are two trailers. But there is no commentary, no behind the scenes stuff, and even the audio is DD2.0 according to my player. Well, let's be charitable and assume that the absence of the extras listed on the cover was a genuine mistake on the publisher's part, and not a heinous case of bare-faced fibs. Again, things are better here on Amazon because the Amazon product info doesn't claim that there are any extras and so you won't be factoring false information into your decision whether or not to buy the DVD. Like I did.
And the film's real title is "Horrors of War" not "Zombies of War." In fact you won't even find the film listed under the name "Zombies of War" on imdb. Or maybe you will now, because I submitted this newly-invented (UK DVD exclusive!) alternative title to imdb. The publisher appears to have made up this new title to cash in on the resurgent zombie film wave. But that's OK, just look how many alternative titles the average Italian zombie film has - and in fairness the film does at least contain a couple of zombies, so it's not a complete fabrication / deception.
Rated 2 stars because (a) there is a DVD inside the case and (b) there is a film on the DVD - which is surpisingly honest considering everything else about this product!
