Dealing with the dead is even worse than dealing with the devil!

Product Description

Michiru Kita is a weak-spirited girl who has a hard time speaking her mind. One day she notices mysterious, ring-like markings around the necks of two of her classmates, two boys who miraculously survived a horrible accident six months before. Michiru, possessing the rare ability to see these rings knows that they warn of impending death. Thinking that maybe she can do something to save them, she approaches them...but it seems the boys have already made some other kind of deal and garnered themselves a heavy debt in the process.....

Zombies and money 7 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
Zombie Loan volume 1 contains chapters 1 to 6 plus translation notes.
It is rated Older Teen due to language and violence.
There are 13 volumes in total.

Zombie loan is about Michiru Kita, a teenage girl with a power called Shinigami Eyes. This enables her to see rings around people's necks. If the ring is grey, then that person will die soon. If the ring is black, then that person is already dead.
One day she spots 2 of her male classmates take off their right hands and switch them with each other. They then pull a weapon out from their hand. The boys, Shito Tachibana and Chika Akatsuki both have black rings around their necks. Shito is a tall, quiet, dark haired boy and Chika is the complete opposite, a loud, rude light haired boy. After they notice that they have been spotted, they threaten to kill her. But instead of killing her, she tells them about her Shinigami Eyes and they decide to use her to help them with their job as they can't see the rings. They kill zombies for money. With enough money, they will be able to take off the rings around their neck and become alive again.

PEACH-PIT are a female duo most famous for their works Shugo Chara!, Rozen Maiden and DearS. Unlike those works, this one is more serious with a lot more blood and violence in. Peach-Pit are known for their cute girl character designs and this doesn't change in Zombie Loan. All the art in this manga is superb especially the character designs.

The publisher is Yen Press. They are one of my favourite publishers as the paper quality is always excellent as is the ink and translation.
I really enjoyed this book. It's an interesting concept with zombies paying off loans. I would have never have thought of anything like that.
Overall this is a definite 5/5. I can't wait to get my hands on the next volume.

Another hit from Peach-Pit 9 Feb 2008

Zombie-Loan is another great series from Peach-Pit. The art is absolutely gorgeous, the action flows on the page, and the characters are intriguing enough to warrant multiple volumes. I didn't like Michiko at the get-go, but by the end of the volume she was my favorite character. Can't wait to pick up volume two if the level of quality stays the same. A must for any fantasy manga fan!

Intriguing beginning. 8 Aug 2011

Peach-Pit, Zombie-Loan, vol. 1 (Yen Press, 2003)

It's taken me a number of years to track down a copy of the first volume of Zombie-Loan, and I gotta say, it's nothing at all like I expected. (I was expecting Otsuka's Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service except, you know, in reverse.) Chock-full of the cuteness one expects from the Peach-Pit crew, but with the darker overtones suggested by the title (at least, suggested by the title if you think about it from a more Japanese perspective, which I failed to do. oops.)

Quick summary: Michiru Kita is a high-school student who has the ability to see the impending deaths of those around her, which show up as black rings around their necks (think ribbon more than hangman's noose here). She notices them on the necks of two guys in her class who survived a nasty accident six months previous, and tries to work up the guts to warn them, being almost painfully shy. But she soon learns there is a great deal more to this than she originally understood--and that her gift may be of great use to the guy at the top of this particular food chain... an interesting, though slightly slow, beginning (the last panels of this book give you the basic premise of the series). Looking forward to seeing where the series goes. *** ½

Pretty good 23 Feb 2011

Although I'm not really into shojo for the lack of action they tend to have or not have, this series okay although again the action is pretty limited.Buy it if you've got a sister who has a thing for bishonen characters but ignore it if you want action.
