now I LOVE reading horror novels, call it an addiction, and trust me if there is a Zombie book, film or graphic novel out there I've probably read it, same with vampires and sorcerers. The only thing is though that a lot of the fiction is very similar, you start reading a book and you mentally think, ok so that's the story that they are going with in this one. Essentially you've seen it all before.
There are very few horrow / epic fictions that make you sit back and think, 'wow, really didn't expect that'. For me these moments arrived with King's Dark Tower series, the Indie Zombie flick, Colin and Stephen Donaldson's epic fantasies.
When I first started to read the Zombie Fallout series I had no idea what awaited me. I'd simply bought the first one as it kept on coming up again and again in the kindle lists and I was running out of choices!
When the main character starts his Zombie Apocolypse covered in dog poo I was a little taken aback. When Mark Tufo ripped up the rule book and made his plague both a disease and a supernatural curse, threw in another mythical creature and some psychic connections I was blown away.
These books challange everything that you thought you 'knew' from other Zombie fiction. The characters are funny, lovable and very likely in need of some serious therapy at the end of series. The description of guns and fighting boggle the mind of a girl brought up in a country where guns are illegal and the gore, is well.... gorey!
If you've already read the other ZF books, you will not need my review to persuade you to buy it, just get on with it! If you're starting from the beggining you're in for an awesome ride and true to form, ZF4 will turn your world on it's head and leave you cursing Mark for not having the next one ready to roll.
Oh and I highly recommend that you sign up to Mark Tufo's facebook page, as it's great being able to talk to other fans and Mark whilst we wait for the next one.
