TO review this, for what 'it' is worth 'it' being merely 'words' :

'The history of language shows everywhere a universal tendency towards a narrowing and leveling down of the meaning of words' (p.49)........

'To be absorbed ' by something..does not mean ''to be dissolved'' like suger in water, but rather 'to be totally preoccupied by something'', ...then he exists authentically as who he is, that is, in his task' (p.160)

'Dasein means being absored in that toward which I comport myself.....' (p.161)

(against Freud's scientism ID/Ego/S-Ego and Schopenheurian-model of human beings driven by 'will') ...
'The determining factor is not an urge or a drive driving and urging me from behind, but something standing before me, a task' (p.173)

This is an interesting and, having read it, obvious criticism for H to make against F. I 've never read H discussing F, so this was interesting for me; however whilst the translator and editor talk in some detail about H's relationship with F, Heidegger himself only mentions Freud in passing to merely critise him for reducing the human being to a present-at-hand subject (rather that the above quotes that show dasein is always already his situation too).

The letters section was 'OK' - no shocking/interesting revelations......
However, on the plus side it does break down and make more accessible some difficult parts of B&T - the first 150 pages where great - revelations on logic (p.130), anthropomorphism (p.144) science (or anti-science - p.56-9, and even an intriguing debate on whether time exists with respect to a time before man (p.177)

YOu should probably buy this - it is new Heidegger material after all.

This book is Being and Time for therapists. It is dense and varied. Because it is the account of a series of seminars it lacks a cogent thematic approach which will put some readers off no doubt. However I see it more as a book to which you turn to from time to time - read small sections and then meditate on their implications for a while. I am pretty sure this will be a source of inspiration for many years. For a thorough and thematic treaty try Boss's book which came out of this process 'Existential Foundations of Medicine and Psychology'.
