Product Description

Product Description

The tale unfolds during the 1940s in the tranquillity of Cardigan Bay. After the death of her husband during the Italian campaign Sian gives sanctuary to her young nephew, Claude, whom she grooms to take the place of her husband. Zita comes from a poor, but proud, family who own a small farm north of Naples. She befriended an English soldier during the Allied advances of 1944. In 1953 she arrives in Cardigan Bay with her son, Pietro, to reconcile herself with the widow of the man who fathered her child. This story, set in post-war Europe, examines an obscene marriage that survives, and a rare affection that struggles beneath its brooding shadow.
