Review

"Lennard Zinn is a veritable cycling Einstein, and as a naturally gifted teacher he has the unique ability to explain even the most difficult mechanical task." --Davis Phinney, Olympic medalist, U.S. Pro champion, and Tour de France stage winner"Understanding the mechanics of your bike, knowing how to adjust it to suit your riding style, and knowing how to keep it running smoothly are essential to your mountain biking performance. Nobody teaches these skills better than the famous artiste "Leonardo da Zinnski." --Ned Overend, World and National Mountain Bike Champion"Lennard Zinn is an institution in the bicycle world--a legend. Legions of cyclists have learned to repair bikes from him, ridden bicycles he's built, or used his advice as guidance on how to better enjoy the world on two wheels." -- Bicycle Times magazine"Regardless of your skill level, this book is a great manual to have on hand. In its 5th edition, Zinn adds to an already impressive knowledge base, keeping things up-to-date with current innovations and tools. It doesn't spend all of its 464 pages going over installation and maintenance procedures; there are also a lot of useful tips and tricks." -- Adventure Cycling magazine"Zinn is very good at taking you incrementally through the learning process--whether you are a beginner or expert mechanic." -- Out There Monthly magazine"This book almost rates along with those 'missing manuals' that exist for computer software. When was the last time the manual that came with your bike bore any relation to it? Exactly. You could barely buy a decent tire for the price of this book and that should be justification enough." -- TheWashingMachinePost.net"Simple to reaad and follow, the illustrated, large-format paperback manual features everything from replacing a flat to repairing components. It's a great addition to any new biker's library but offers invaluable advice for experts, too." -- Sports Guide magazine"This 5th edition contains detai

Fantastic book. Will save me money in the future, being new to mountain biking. I was a runner but being the wrong side of 40 my knees are not so good on the impact side. The book explains everything about mountain bikes and the repairs that will be required due to novice riding it also covers the servicing that all bikes need to keep them going.

this book has saved me plenty of money by helping me prevent me damaging my bike in inexpert attempts to maintain it. i've changed my chainset, bottom bracket, re-run cables, fitted a chain, and even changed out the whole frame since buying this book. Very happy indeed.

This is a very good book for the budding garage bicycle mechanic. It gives very clear explanations and good line diagrams. Some photos would be nice but this would clearly bump up the price. I would highly recommend this guide.

My husband has found this to be easy to understand with clear diagrams and explanations.
This is the second book in his collection and together they provide most of the knowledge needed to maintain the family bicycles!
He definitely recommends this book for anyone, be they amateur or professional!

I've purchased this book for some mountain bike specific maintenance as I already had the road bike version, unfortunately having got this version I'm finding that there is lots of duplication between the two books and not enough detail on some of the topics I would like to see in a mountain bike book which would be things like maintaining suspension shocks which is covered but very briefly for a few specific types.

The book itself is a good broad guide to bike repair and maintenance although it does lack detail in some areas so as your ability grows the book may not give you all that you need.

If you already have the road bike edition then searching online is probably better than using this book, what I would like to see would be a "Zinn and the complete book of bike maintenance" which covers both road and mountain.

A very useful book for the novice with plenty of information on the new components for MTB's.
It helps you understand a bit more about how things work and how you can tweak them to your own specification.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has a modern/new MTB.

This book is brilliant for me - as a beginner to mountain bike maintenance, it gives me the information and explanations I need to better understand my bike. And overall it's just an interesting read for those who love bikes!
