Product Description

Review

A book about, and for, anyone whose dreams outreach their abilities (GUARDIAN )

[a] humorous masterpiece to treasure (INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY )

Berkmann's observation and wit reveals all that's truly great about cricket and the spirit of the sport. The Game of Life as it should be played. (LADS MAG )

Berkmann's acute powers of observation, especially of the ageing male species, are cutting but accurate. And under his penmanship the generalisation is wholly reasonable. (INDEPENDENT )

Independent on Sunday

'[a] humorous masterpiece to treasure'

To close to the truth 18 July 2005
Format:Hardcover
It is like some one has written my unauthorised biography and has gotten all the elements correct, changing names to protect the innocent.

This book is a fascinating journey through time, space and mid-off in the presence of few blokes you would be happy to share a pint of Ale or Merlot with, or more likely both.

A must read for any cricketer with more hope than talent, and an eloquent users guide for all those unfortunate widows left behind by the intrusion of cricket.

Dispite this is one of the few books written about the "love it or hate it" game of cricket, it is fantastic.

As a player, I find myself agreeing with almost every word in this book, and the great detail of the fantastic games he has played and each of the players really makes you feel apart of his team.

Basically Berkmann is the captain of a Sunday cricket team who play friendlys throughout the British summertime that lasts for about 2 weeks (tends to be the time when you miss the games due to being on holiday), and its basically just facts and storys about his experiences in the game, and what has changed throughout his career.

He makes some very interesting and funny observations such has have you ever noticed that people are more inclined to take a 2 when the fielder hasn't got the correct kit?

Any Cricket fan would love this book, and most people who have any interest in any sport would enjoy it, I can't say how much of a good book this is!

PERFECT FOLLOW-UP 2 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Zimmer Men is the perfect follow-up to the absolute classic that was Rain Men. If you havn't read either, buy them both today and be sure to read Rain Men first as Zimmer Men name-checks its predecessor several times and will increase both your understanding and enjoyment.
Anyone who enjoys a cool beer or a glass of wine whilst watching their live cricket will delight in these splendid books. I won't say any more, you really do need to read these books.
