Product Description

Review

Hilde Domin, often narrowly identified as the voice of the writers returned from exile, has at last been fully appreciated in Vallaster's sensitive, seismographically attuned study of her progression as a lyric poet. While portraying her - correctly and indisputably - as a representative of exilic and post-exilic writing, Vallaster never loses sight of Domin's highly individualistic expressiveness, which sets her apart both from fellow exiles and those writers who remained in Germany. This clearly written monograph fuses the results of fastidious scholarship and spontaneous understanding of Domin's continuously and still evolving lyric oeuvre. (Guy Stern, Wayne State University)
