A well-made product with a large range of teams to buy (if that's your thing). Teams made by other companies can be used, and there are a variety of bases to choose from. Easier to play than the old Subbuteo, but more difficult to spin the figures.

The New Subbuteo 23 April 2011
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Father Christmas gave this set to my 6 year old son and it has been a real hit. Admittedly he (my son, not Santa) is football mad but he has had so much enjoyment from it in only 4 months.
The quality of the players, pitch and goals is far superior to old Subbuteo (I know because I have checked with my collection in the attic). The players are better painted (12 are supplied in each team) and their bases are heavier making it easier for younger players as they tend to move straighter when flicked. The pitch is of a better fabric and sits reasonably well on the carpet, although it would be better to glue it to a board. However the goals are a bit flimsy and the nets tend to unhook themselves. Yes, two of our players have broken (easily fixed with glue) and a goal crossbar has snapped (again repaired with glue) but this is all part of the experience - tell a 6 year old that careless play results in breakages and he will play carefully rather than spoil a beloved toy.
This is a fantastic set for any child interested in football, they can play at their own level, using adapted or proper rules, and learn so much about the real game at the same time.

Quality problems 5 Mar 2011
By Sean H
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
It would be easy to allow subbuteo nostalgia to get in the way of my review but I must remain focused. Whilst the item will doubtless provide hours of entertainment for my 7-year old (and me of course), two quality-related issues have cast a small cloud over things.

Firstly the fabric pitch was stuck together along the line markings and in places had to be forced apart (it must have been folded and packed straight after "painting" when they were still hot). Minor damage incurred when peeling apart.

Secondly, a plastic "lip" at the top of one of the goals had already failed during manufacture. This holds the netting in place and it's only a matter of time before I'll have to superglue it. The plastic of the goals is of poor quality and there must have been problems during the molding process as another "lip" had to be cleared of surplus plastic with a sharp knife before the netting could be attached.

After 30 years it's great to be able to play Subbuteo again, just wish the product-quality was a bit better.
