latest audio drama featuring sapphire and steel, two strange beings from somewhere else who deal with breaks in the fabric of reality, and things trying to get in from beyond that.

This is the third in the latest series of these audios, and whilst the story does stand alone there are various elements of bigger continuity here, so you will get more out of this by hearing the whole range in order.

the story runs for four episodes of roughly twenty five minutes in duration, spread over two discs. and the final disc ends with a trailer for the upcoming fourth story in the season.

the story also features, as they do occasionally, other colleagues of sapphire and steel's. in this case a welcome return for david collings as silver, who played the role twice on television and a couple of earlier audios, and mark gatiss as gold, who played the role in a few of the earlier audios.

the story involves a space shuttle, all but one of the crew of which have been killed. and the remaining one is having very strange dreams. silver and gold arrive on the shuttle to seal the break in reality, but soon realise they will need sapphire and steel's help.

but someone is not entirely happy about that. with good reason..

the play is very much about the four elements rather than any human characters, and some excellent character interaction and drama ensues. there's a real time element to the story which adds extra drama. and whilst you can see the end of the final episode coming early on in it, the acting and the characterisation involved make it a very good listen.

not the best story in the range, but still very good indeed.

I liked it - but it was very odd. One of the better sapphire and steel stories - with added silver and gold to liven things up. As always tricksy and at the end - I was left to wonder what on earth had been going on - did it make any sense ? I still don't know.
