Westclox are a traditional clock brand which began in 1884 in Illinois USA. The name is most associated with the Big Ben alarm clocks and are known for quality and reliability.
This traditional style, authentic 1964 Big Ben Design will take pride of place on any bedside table. Use the metal keys at the back to wind the clock (36 hours of movement), set the time and set the alarm. The time is clearly indicated by a hour, minute and second hand, set upon the large cream faced dial. The quality of the clock shines through with its durable construction, including metal bezel, hands and base. Don't worry about not being able to read the time at night, the hands and numbers are luminous! Awake to the loud sound of the bell alarm. Electricity and Battery's are not required due to the keywound mechanism. Complete with a 1 year's Manufacturer Warranty.

I had a Westclox Baby Ben given to me when I went to college in the late '70s and chose to buy a Big Ben when I started work in '81; that one lasted me until last summer (2009).
The Westclox name and design has been taken over by a Chinese firm and the result is a huge disappointment. The alarm silencing button has been moved from on top (a good place for a fumbling hand) to the back of the clock; most of the casing is now of plastic; the alarm is tinny and weak; the face is unreadable in the dark and the setting knobs small and fiddly.

I wanted to replace my old Westclox alarm clock, but I was shocked when I read that this is plastic, and I was really reluctant to get it. However, as it is one of the few keywound clocks available, and to be honest, my old Westclox was the only thing that could wake me up in the morning, I gave in.
Apart from the fact that it is plastic, I am quite happy with it. The sound is loud enough and it works well. Sadly, although the hands are luminous and can be seen in the dark, the numbers are not. Also, unlike the older model it has two metal keys at the back, one to wind the clock and one to wind the alarm.
It is a good, reliable alarm clock, and if it was not advertised as "authentic 1964 Big Ben Design" and "Classic" it would probably get five stars. They just don't make them like they used to anymore.

Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this clock as a gift for my Mother, and she is delighted with it overall, dispite a couple of gripes we both had. The clock face is a nice size, and easy to read the time off it. The alarm is very loud and does the job you want it to, to wake you up, although the off switch is on the back, rather then the top, so a bit more fiddly to turn the alarm off when your half asleep.
The main gripe would be the fiddly nobs on the back, where rather than having one key to wind up the clock & alarm simultaneously(which her old Big Ben clock did), you have two seperate keys to wind up, one for the clock mechanism & one for the alarm. Dispite this though, we are pleased with the purchase.
