I was particularly drawn to this guide because it covered only North Island. We have been to NZ before, and our next trip will only involve North Island. In planning an itinerary, I have been able to find all the information that I was looking for across the whole range of topics - attractions, accommodation, bars/restaurants, etc.

I was hoping for something that was a little less of a typical tourist book. Misses a lot of things that we found in our travels and has too much on where to stay and where to eat and even that is very incomplete. We referred to it only when we wanted to se if it had more detail than other things we had. Probably worth the money but misses far too much - same review for my South Island book.
In particular everyone says spend less time on North Island but in practice, apart from birds and animals, South Island aspects are similar to Europe wheras North Island is far more unique.
Almost as if the author hadn't trvelled around the island personally (I doubt this is the case but just seems like it).

We took several guides with us to New Zealand, this won hands down, great for advice on accomodation( several we would not have found without it. great desriptions and ideas for places to visit. - We saw things, ate things and visited lots of places which without this we would have missed.
