Huge disappointment!, 31 Jan 2008
Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
My 5 year old twin girls asked for this for Christmas, opened it with excitement and played with it for 5mins. The doll is fine except asks to go on her tricycle alot. There is no tricycle, the tricycle has to be purchased in addition and can't even find one to buy, even if wanted too! Big con - so avoid disappointment and frustration and buy a different doll. Baby Annabel is fab, the girls still play with theirs two years on!!

We called ours Brat-ney, 5 Nov 2008
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This doll is truly awful, all she does is whine. My daughter barely had enough time to give her what she asked for then she whined for something else "I want my cup" "Where's my croissant" "give me this" "do that", with about 3 seconds in between each demand.
The worst was when she demanded to be told a story (not with the book supplied but one made up by your child, which you would think is a great idea to encourage imagination) but it consistently informed my 3 year old that it wasn't good enough or "I don't like that story" (must be said in a brat like over-spoiled way for the full effect). Real encouraging, not.
This could have been a great idea for a doll but as it is just now, it's a vile, bratty, loathsome thing, I removed her batteries and put her back in the box. My daughter was not sorry to see it go, and although it still sits where she can see it she never asks to play with it, in fact she calls it 'the doll that's not very nice'. I wouldn't consider selling this on to someone else, even though she's practically untouched. I wouldn't even give it away, it's truly that vile.
I've bought a lot of toys for my kids that we've been disappointed with but this is the only one I've truly detested. This thing should be exorcised by your local priest, or failing that set on fire and beat with a big stick, better yet just buy something else.
We bought the Fisher Price 'My Baby' doll and she's really sweet and has the same idea of asking for her things (her blanket and teddy), my daughter carries her around even when the batteries run out.
It's only fair to add that Learning chou-chou is not a fair representation of the chou-chou range, so don't let this put you off the rest. Some of them are really good, we especially liked rock-a-bye chou chou.

It has good and bad points, but fun overall., 26 Jan 2009

While I agree with some of the things on the previous reviews, not all is bad about it! My daughter is 4 and a half and got this doll for Christmas and she likes it.
Good points:
- It comes with a book and I personally think it is quite clever how you press a button for every page of the book and the doll makes comments about that page (e.g. the colour of something) or makes you a question about what is on it, when she's run out of things to say about that page (about three comments/questions per page) she asks you to turn to the following page. One thing: you can 'read' the book to the doll (it doesn't have words, just pictures and the page numbers on it) only when she asks for you to read it, otherwise, even if you press the page numbers on the book, the doll won't react to it...
- Another thing that is good for me, although for other people may be indifferent is that the doll has two settings: English and German and since my daughter has some German ancestry, that was interesting for me, as she will (I hope) be able to pick up some words from it.
- Appart from that, my daughter dresses her, carries her, puts her to sleep as she would any other doll.
Bad points about the doll:
- It is slightly deceptive, when you see it in the box as it appears to be sitting on a potty - well, it's not. It doesn't come with a potty, it's just sitting on a piece of cardboard.
- It is true that no sooner has she said she's thirsty that she's already saying she's hungry and so on, which doesn't give the child enough time to actually give her what she needs.
- When it asks to be told a story, it would be nice if it was quiet for a while so that your child has time to do that, but in no time she starts making growling and other sounds which are not neccesarily going to match the story your child tells them and which puzzles them a litte instead.
- It does ask for her trycicly quite a lot and yes, it doesn't come with it. My daughter normally tells the doll, you don't have a trycicle, but you can ride your horse (a babyborn horse she has).
Potentially bad:
- It is also true that sometimes you give her something and she says I don't like it, which is normally when you don't use the food or drink she comes with. - A bad point only if you consider your child may learn from it and say the same as the doll when you feed her... etc, but children do say that sometimes anyway.
I have been as descriptive as possible, judge it for yourselves... My daughter also has Fisher Price Little Mommy doll and the playcentre, which is much better at interacting with children and give them enough time to get things for them... You can also see my review about the Little Mommy doll in amazon too.
