Format:Audio CD
aka Adventures in Afropea. This is Marie Daulne's African inspired group's first album (from 1993?). It predominantly features the polyphonic style of singing learned from the forest peoples of the Congo (originally named pygmies). The voice is purely the instrument on these songs and you are lifted up, twirled around, dropped and picked up again by the sheer artistry of this group. I love Abadou- inspired by a Syrian song about a man crying over one of his wives who's done a runner from his harem. The modern spiritual "Bottom" is about a sinking boat and was written by Jean-Louis Daulne (brother I think). Mizike is a work song- based on the chant of women beating clothes on rocks in Zaire- a call to forget material possessions and to be imspired by Mr Music. the final song links us to Marie Daulne's European half of her ancestry with a 16th century Spanish song "Din Din."

What can I say? Smooth, rythmic,beautiful and fluid voices united singing pure R/B /reggae and hip hopish melodies in french...Sexy is an understatement. If you like Eryka Badu, De'angelo or The Roots you will love this album. Quality music! Buy it! own it! It will give you many hours of joy!
