Product Description

Product Description

A new concept in ZTT compilations, Zambient One draws from the catalogues of the most celebrated acts on the label (Art Of Noise, Propaganda, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, 808 State) but selects some rather different remixes to keep things interesting and add a sophisticated twist. Sprinkle on some laid back dancefloor delights, slinky selections by the likes of Hoodlum Priest, Instinct, Novecento and L.a.z.y. and leaven with a handful of classics from the Stiff Records archive - Tracey Ullman's wonderful reading of The Waitresses I Know What Boys Like, a 21st century re-boot of Jona Lewie's Always Find Me In the Kitchen At Parties and Mint Juleps' exalted take on Neil Young's Only Love Can Break Your Heart. Then pick up the 6am Ambient Mix of Kirsty MacColl's hit single Walking Down Madison and pause for thought while Heights Of Abraham cause temporal stasis (or make time stand still, if you prefer) with their blissful version of Fred Neil's Dolphins. In short, Zambient One is Zang Tuum Tumb s very personal collection of modern day lullabies (and wake-up calls). The soundtrack to an imaginary road movie that heads off from Sarm Studios in West London on a torrential Friday night and arrives at the burning embers of Studios Mediterraneo in Ibiza just in time for sunrise on Sunday. It's a highly involving trip; one that will leave you refreshed and relaxed, ready to hit the bar - and wanting to experience it all over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does just what it says on the cover... 10 Jun 2013

Let’s get this straight first. There has been a lot of consternation from diehard fans as to this compilation being a “rip off” because of a single track, but more on that later. Frankly, I say "Tosh!", these dissenters missed the point.

Consisting of a mixture of well-known and not so-well known tracks from very diverse artists on the ZTT stable, and other artists who happened by the Sarm Studios with a track to record. Seemingly intended as a taster for ZTT’s excellent back catalogue collections (or Diversions as they like to call them), most of the mixes on this collection seem to be subtle variations on the most common or well-known mixes of the standard tracks. So for instance, the Art of Noise “Moments in Love - Beating Hart’s Mix” bears more than a passing resemblance to the version that appears on the Into Battle With… album, the controversial “Sex Mix, Edition Two” mix of Frankie’s seminal “Relax” appears to be a spliced in half version of the original 16 minute epic “Sex Mix” which first appeared on 12” back in 1983. This mix appeared a month or so ago as a streaming sampler on facebook, and various other channels, a number of fans cancelling their pre-orders on the apparent rip-off of this. I for one think this was rather an over-reaction and kept my pre-order open, not wanting to sully what looked to be a good overall compilation with a knee-jerk reaction.
Quality control wise, the sound is excellent, and I would have been disappointed with anything less as Trevor Horn’s production values are one of the key reasons why I particularly enjoy ZTT products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Compilation! 31 July 2013

ZTT certainly bang out some ripper comps, and this is no exception. Just reading the track listing might have you thinking it's a bit of an odd mix, but it all hangs together beautifully! Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars a pointless "cash cow" compilation.... 16 Nov 2013
I really don't get the idea/concept that ZTT/Salvo were trying to achieve with this silly mess...
It feels like a sub-standard filler for their next comp. series "Art of the 12""...and this cd is just real substance....
I truly hope that there will NOT be a sequel to this messy concept cd.....
