I made the mistake of just putting these boots on and going off on a walk. Lots and lots of heel lift which gave me such a blister on one heel that I couldn't wear them again for a few weeks. While I was waiting I bought a pair of those green insoles (Supafeet?), which lifted the heel slightly, and I learnt how to tie my laces properly! I even bought real hiking socks (which I never wear now - I like my cotton socks). Now, a few hundred miles later, they are broken in and I'm healed, and they are a joy to wear. Easily the best pair of boots I've ever worn.
I wholeheartedly recommend these boots - I walk in all weathers and they do not leak at all, though they don't have the best grip in muddy, slippery conditions. My feet don't sweat either. They hold your foot superbly going down hill and support the ankle if you slip awkwardly. They are very good boots indeed.
