I purchased the white model which looks really good with a black or dark grey laptop sat on it, the cooler is made of a good quality plastic with a large perforated aluminium top plate that the air flow is pushed through from two large built in fans that is all powered by a USB port on your laptop and uses a short USB cable to connect the two, but the cooler does have a second port if you need all your USB's, there is also an on/off switch and fan speed control wheel all positioned at the back of the cooler. The cooler puts out quite a breeze and surprisingly isn't that noisy in my opinion, I have read reviews on this cooler that said that one of its drawbacks was that its very noisy and yes the cooler does make a noise but its not distracting or annoying, the cooler also has rubber feet to prevent any vibration or noise being transmitted through to whatever you have your laptop and cooler sat on.
The only negative point I have with this cooler is the flat rubber strips that are mounted on the top surface which you sit your laptop on to stop it moving around are not stuck down very well and start to lift at the edges within a short space of time and you find yourself forever sticking them back down or trying to get them to stay stuck flat in their positions.
Overall this is a good quality cooler and represents very good value for money that I would definitely recommend.

As purchased, this product lacks one thing: an integral means of adjusting the gap between your laptop and the product surface. Turns out this gap is crucial to obtaining optimum performance (something indicated by a "Tip" in the user documentation). To get this product to work at its best, use some blu-tack and, at the very least, prop up the back of your laptop by a few millimetres - the increased airflow will make a dramatic difference, and reduce your laptop's temperature by several more degrees than it would without it. Actually, without this makeshift "prop," I wasn't as impressed with this device as I expected for the price.
Build quality appears to be good, with the product being well-finished, and switches and dials feel solid and not flimsy. The fans themselves whirr confidently in the background (there was an initial flutter but it's disappeared in the day I've been using it) and are unobtrusive (though certainly noticeable) even on the highest setting. The supplied USB cable is long enough for those of us whose laptops have USB sockets only on one side, rather than the rear, and is of comparable quality to the rest of the product.
And how effective is it? Well, my all-aluminium "Unibody" MacBook Pro runs pretty hot when watching movies or running Flash apps, with the heat concentrated around the bottom-left corner, the left speaker, the left-side of the keyboard, and the length of aluminium that runs along the top of the keyboard. When resting on this cooler with the fans set to max, the bottom-left corner loses much of its heat and becomes decidedly lukewarm rather than hot - almost cool, in fact. The remainder of the sections mentioned remain hot, but are definitely less hot than before. I think the difference was more noticeable in the hours following my implementation of the blu-tack "prop" at the rear of the laptop, and this has slowly diminished as the blu-tack has settled. Nevertheless, the difference is pronounced and desirable, but finding an alternative to the blu-tack that will maintain a chosen height between laptop and the cooler's surface over time is definitely on the agenda.
All-in-all, the build quality, quietness of the fans, and effectiveness of the cooling make this a worthwhile purchase at the price. Two thumbs up.

After having used two Antec laptop coolers for years, I have to say that I should have switched earlier. The Zalman cooler is very quiet, cools my super-hot Dell laptop very very well, and is nice on the eye, too.
The full-size USB connector is also a plus in my view, as the fidly connector on the Antec cooler got really loose after extended usage (some years, to give them credit), and rendered the item unusable. This shouldn't happen with the Zalman.
The Zalman cooler also has a wheel to adjust fan speed, which I first thought is more of a gimmick, but in actual fact very practical, as maximum fan-speed isn't really necessary in my case (mind you my laptop gets freakishly hot without a separate cooler to a level that it stops working - and yes, I clean the internal fans regularly, so that isn't it).
At sub-maximum speeds, this cooler is basically inaudible, if you're not working in absolute silence in the middle of the night.
The Zalman cooler has also very nice and sturdy stand on a desk, with the only real downside being the usage on a lap, as it has 2 pokie legs at the back, that you will notice.

This product fell apart after 2 months!

not too bad
