My system configuration is that I have a Quad Core Phenom CPU with separate graphics card and a 500W Stronger Scythe Power Supply (with its own silent 120mm fan).

I have a 120mm casefan exhausting air out of the case and this is positioned about 4 cm from the CPU heatsink. The heatsink is really tall and protrudes from the motherboard - almost as much as the PCI cards.

I have not added a fan to the heatsink yet but the temperature maintained is between 30 - 40 Celsius. If the temperature stays this low I may not add the a fan to the heatsink. Apart from the noise of the hard disk, my system is now silent!

The product is good quality and the heatsink itself is of a solid feel and heavy.

Installation was not too bad and it took me at least 30 minutes. Bolts attach the heatsink to the CPU and there is no struggling with a locking mechanism. Beware that you do need to take the motherboard out as there is a plate that fits on the otherside.

Bearing in mind the cost an dthe fact that I am running a CPU fanless, I would recommend this heatsink.

There is no doubting the cooling ability of this product.
Once fitted it aligned perfectly with the rear exhaust fan mounted to my Antec P180 case. I attached one Enermax T.B Silence fan (Model no. UCTB12) to the rear of the heatsink and the result is exceptionally quiet computing. (I noticed one of the other reviewers hasn't fitted a fan yet and is still maintaining a CPU temp of 30-40deg) The heatsink is very well made and visually attractive, I think. Unusually, it will accomodate two 120mm fans, one in front and one behind.
However, the attaching bracket that is mounted to the motherboard rear is not of the same quality, made of a light thin folded steel, it bends easily under pressure. No use at all too, on my new ASUS M4A89TD Pro/USB3 motherboard as it would crush the surface mount components directly behind the CPU.

Solution: Make your own mounting arrangements. I made a new insulator from modellers plastic sheet and attached motherboard spacers (supplied with my case) to the very strong original ASUS CPU backplane.

I did a lot of research before buying this product and it outperforms everything at this price point. If you are a regular system builder you will have no trouble mounting the CNPS10X.
Highly recommended with above reservation.

WOW! what a difference this cooler makes. I got it to replace my stock cooler for an AMD 965BE quad core. Ultra quiet is because it has no fans!!! However I also purchased a couple of coolink swif2-120p fans to go with it.... my cpu has never run so cool and so quiet..... I forgot it was switched on the other day (couldn't hear it like I could with the old cooler) Although I'm using a PWM fan with it, the MB runs the fan almost at full speed so I bypassed it with a free software fan contoller for my motherboard (to run at 1000rpm). I game with it and have not had to run the fan any faster, with the temp barely moving. I haven't tried overclocking yet because I'm happy with the super quiet PC though I'm pretty sure that this could handle a fair amout of heat as the fins are cool to the touch (even after 3hours of counter-strike).
I recommend this product, especially if you are limited for space in your case (Fan edge is a little close to my memory but could be moved to the other side of the cooler (it comes with brakets to fit two fans if you need to....I only fit one on the cooler)

You can use most large heat sinks without fans but in most cases you need at least 1 to vent heat.
I'm a gamer so I was going to be putting it through it's pace so I added a fan to it.

i5-2500K CPU default settings with fan:
idle = 40oC
load = 65oC

Mounting it does require a second pare of hands when on the 1155 socket.
Make sure all screws are fully down. Size and weight isn't too bad so should fit into most stand ATX cases.
You can mount 2 fans but you don't gain much for having 2 with this heat sink.

I had an issue with the mounting bracket on the underside of the of motherboard as it wobbled a bit.
I rectified this with a few vibration washers on each corner.

If I had had any idea before buying this that I would end up spending a day almost entirely dismantling and re-building my PC I would not have bothered. My PC, being the heart of my multi-track recording studio, is already hooked up to dozens of external and internal devices and so pretty much every slot and socket on the motherboard is hooked up. In order to install this cooler you need to get to the back of the motherboard which, for me, meant pulling the whole thing apart. I've bought CPU coolers before that were much easier to attach than this.

In addition, by the time I had stripped down my machine to the point where I could get to the back of the motherboard (still with difficulty because of all the cables in the way) I found that I needed two pairs of hands to align the back plate with the rear mount, and by the time I had managed this myself I found that the actual screw holes were very awkward to access, and I'm worried about the weight of this thing straining the motherboard.

I'm still halfway through the job. I just thought I'd take a break to vent!

I would recommend this to anyone custom-building their own PC from scratch or to anyone transferring their components to a new access-friendly chassis. To anyone with a busy, old-fashioned pre-built tower who doesn't relish ripping out the tangled, fragile guts of their machine this is just a hassle you can avoid by buying a different cooler!

I don't care care how well it does the job. It's just not worth this sort of grief.

I wish I could afford a Mac!

UPDATE: Within 30 minutes of getting everything hooked back up and switched on my admittedly quieter PC became a toaster! CPU temperature of 90c and rising! Took the top off the case and got hit by a wave of heat!
